The representative body of the Irish tourism industry, it works with Government Agencies, Tourist Boards, North and South, Tourism Ireland Limited, the EU, and other organisations whose activities impact on tourism. In particular, the focus is on research, casemaking and influencing policies, which shape the future of Ireland’s Tourism Industry.

Last week the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation held its annual flagship conference entitled “Adjust, Adapt, Accelerate: Irish tourism in uncertain times” The Convention Centre Dublin

The conference, sponsored by Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and AIB, included a stellar line up of speakers with discussions around sector performance, policy, impact of AI, culinary tourism, macroeconomics, geopolitics, future challenges and opportunities.

📢August tourism data suggests softening season

Today we published our August Dashboard bringing together Central Statistics Office Ireland data and industry statistics to show the sector’s monthly performance.

CSO visitor numbers from overseas were up 2%, although spend was down 2% for the month of August. The key North American market shows signs of softening while occupancy levels in hotels throughout Ireland were down 1%.

IRELAND’S EU PRESIDENCY: A MOMENT FOR TOURISM

Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union gives the country something every tourism destination competes hard to secure - attention. For six months, ministers, officials, business leaders and media from across Europe will travel throughout Ireland for meetings, conferences and the wider programme of activity that comes with an EU Presidency.

It is obviously a politically significant time for the Government, but it also gives Ireland an extraordinary opportunity to tell its story to a European audience at close range. Tourism should be central to that, not only as part of how Ireland presents itself to Europe, but as part of the policy conversations Ireland helps shape during the Presidency.
