🌊This week we hosted Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall to a number of innovative urban Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) projects in Harmanstown, Co. Dublin. These features reduce flood risks by slowing the flow of rainwater into the River Santry. The river’s water quality is improved by filtering pollutants from road runoff before it reaches the river. Commissioner Roswall visited the Dunree Park site, currently under construction, as well as the completed Lein Road and McAuley Park projects.

🌳The schemes are part of a wider research programme monitoring rainfall runoff, pollutant removal and water quantity retention. The findings will help inform the design and delivery of similar NBS projects across Ireland in the future. These enhancement to biodiversity, landscaping, and placemaking are in line with commitments under the Biodiversity Action Plan and the Nature Restoration Law and They support our national climate commitments.

📍In line with the priorities of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, particularly under the Values pillar, these projects demonstrate how community engagement, inclusion, and respect for citizens can be placed at the centre of public realm development. These projects are part-funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and are owned and managed by Dublin City Council.
