This week, the Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Verona Murphy TD and Leas-Chathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Senator Maria Byrne accompanied by a delegation of TDs and Senators, including David Maxwell TD, Erin Mc Greehan TD, Ruairí Ó Murchú TD, Senator Shane Curley and Senator Laura Harmon participated in the EU Parliamentary Democracy Forum that took place in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament in Brussels on 29–30 September 2026.

This year the Forum focused on some of the most pressing challenges facing European democracies today and featured four thematic sessions:

- Mobilising a Whole-of-Society Approach to Safeguard Elections
- EU Strategy for Civil Society
- From Legislation to Implementation: Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight at EU and National Level
- Defending Democracy amid Geopolitical Disruption: Towards a Team Europe Parliamentary Diplomacy Approach.

The Ceann Comhairle delivered an opening speech for the Forum. She also held bilateral meetings with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Leader of the Democratic Forces of Belarus.
