“I love living independently, it’s the best thing that ever happened.”

Independence can grow through the everyday things such as making decisions, building routines and having more say in how you live.

As life changes, the people around you can help you think about what might be needed next, while keeping your own goals and preferences at the heart of those decisions.

Different housing approaches play an important role in responding to the needs and circumstances of individuals and communities.

Session 4 of our Housing Essentials webinar series presented by Roslyn Molloy, Head of Policy and Practice, and Rob Lowth, Head of Housing First, will focus on two important areas of housing policy and delivery: Age Friendly Housing and Housing First.

Building Inclusive Communities – Part 1 will examine housing for older people, including Age Friendly Housing, Universal Design and rightsizing. The session will also consider Housing First and its role in supporting people who have experienced chronic, long-term homelessness.

Taking place on Thursday, 15th October, from 12pm to 1pm, the webinar will look at how these approaches work in practice, the roles of different organisations and services, and their connections to wider housing policy.

A look back at our Community-Led Housing seminar!

The event brought together groups and organisations involved in housing delivery to continue the conversation around how we can further support and develop community-led housing in Ireland.

We heard from speakers who shared their experiences and insights from across Europe, exploring different approaches to community-led housing and the impact it can have in creating more inclusive and sustainable communities.

Our panel discussion brought the conversation back to Ireland, looking at what is needed to support community-led housing here, the pathways to making it happen, and the lived experiences of those involved in community groups.

Thank you again to our speakers and everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion.

We hope the conversations and connections made on the evening will continue long after the event.

“I love living independently, it's the best thing that ever happened.”

Independent living does not mean having to do everything on your own.

Having the level of support that works for you can be an important part of living independently, and planning ahead can help when housing or support needs change over time.

Disabled people, their families and support workers can work together to plan what the future might look like, while keeping the person’s own choices at the centre.

If you or a family member living with you has a disability and could benefit from support to live independently, visit www.HomeAndSupportsHub.ie to explore your options and take the next step.
