A beautiful Amethyst Deceiver (according to google). This is a tiny mushroom, so small the moss in the background looks huge. Apparently not poisonous but I wouldn't try eating it myself. This image was taken yesterday at Cloughleagh woods but they grow under Beech and Oak so keep an eye out for them at Corkagh too.

Its that time of year when mushrooms can be seen in abundance. I love exploring woodland so I've been seeing plenty in the last couple of weeks. These images were taken at Knocksink Woods, Russborough House and Corkagh.

The tray of Cyclamens I bought in Lidl kept wilting over with the dry weather but the recent rain has perked them up again. I cant figure out what is eating the petals though.

I had a male robin in the garden last winter and he and his partner had at least 2 sets of young. I'm not sure what happened to the pair but they haven't returned and instead a juvenile has taken up residence. You can see here that his breast is almost fully red now. On more than one occasion it has flown so close to us that we could almost feel its wings. I hope it stays around for winter.

Lots of the large Common Hawker dragonflies at Corkaghs lakes but they so rarely land that I haven't gotten a good image however the Common Darters will land anywhere so are much easier to photograph.

A Carder Bee. I dont really use oregano in my cooking and the flowers arent much to look at, plus it spreads......but the bees and smaller butterflies love it.

This ladybird was on a shrub and is possibly a Harlequin Ladybird which are classed as an invasive species as they will feed on the eggs of our native Ladybirds. I'll log the sighting with Biodiversity Ireland but I was in a dilemma as to whether I should kill it. I did'nt!

I was in the garden with the camera when out of the corner of my eye I saw a Holly Blue fly in to a dark corner and start to flap its wings. I got as close as I could and started snapping. The images arent very good but enough to see what became of the poor little butterfly.

Taking in the washing last night and I found this pair doing what comes naturally on a sheet. I left them at it, and got a close up with the camera.

I was away in Tenerife for a short holiday. When everyone had boarded the plane (Aer Lingus) we were told that we would be detouring to Faro in Portugal to refuel which added an extra 90 mins to the flight. The reason given was that the plane was too heavy and it was either stop in Faro or send us off without our luggage. Very odd. Anyway here's a photo of the north of the island with Mount Teide in the background just to prove I was there.
