๐Ÿ’” JUSTICE FOR FELIX โ€” IRELAND NEEDS STRONGER ANIMAL CRUELTY LAWS! ๐Ÿพ

Of course, the Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) has long been calling for much stricter animal cruelty laws in Ireland. Sadly, Felixโ€™s heartbreaking story shows why urgent action is needed. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

๐Ÿฑ Felix, a beloved 12-year-old Persian cat from , , was taken from outside his home by two men on an e-bike. A week later, he was found severely injured, emaciated and with a broken jaw. Tragically, his injuries were so severe that he had to be put to sleep. ๐Ÿ’”

No animal should ever have to endure such horrific suffering. No family should have to experience the devastating loss of a much-loved pet in these circumstances.

Following this appalling case, a petition has been launched calling on the Irish Government to:

โš–๏ธ Introduce tougher penalties for animal cruelty, torture and neglect.
๐Ÿพ Strengthen protections against pet theft.
๐Ÿšจ Improve enforcement of existing animal welfare laws.
โค๏ธ Ensure those responsible for cruelty are held accountable.

PAW believes animal welfare laws must be strengthened, properly enforced and backed by meaningful penalties. Animals are sentient beings who deserve protection, compassion and justice โ€” not cruelty and suffering.

๐Ÿ“ข Please sign and share the petition to help turn Felixโ€™s tragic story into meaningful change.

The Ban Animal Lab Testing protest was back on Grafton Street today. A huge amount of support from the passing public, plus alot of expressions of contempt for the current government who do absolutely nothing positive for animal welfare, in fact they do the opposite and just encourage animal cruelty, with slack welfare laws, plus they actively encourage the animal lab testing industry in this country, drawing more and more pharma companies to these shores, all for money!

A special Thanks to Sushmitha for helping out at the protest today!!

End Horse Fairs in Ireland and Put Animal Welfare First ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

We call on the Irish Government to:

Review the future of horse fairs and assess whether these events can consistently meet the highest animal welfare standards.

Examine the legal options for phasing out or prohibiting horse fairs where animal welfare cannot be adequately protected.

Improve transparency and accountability by publishing appropriate information about inspections, welfare concerns, enforcement actions and outcomes.

Strengthen enforcement of existing animal welfare and animal trading laws, ensuring sufficient resources for inspections and follow-up.

Prioritise animal welfare over tradition and commercial interests, while exploring humane alternatives to animal trading at public fairs.

Why is this important?
Animals are sentient beings who deserve protection, dignity and proper care. Tradition must never take precedence over their welfare.

According to reports concerning the 2026 Ballinasloe Horse Fair, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) responded to 61 logged animal welfare concerns during three days of inspections. The NSPCA reported that 26 animals were taken into its care following 17 separate seizures. A further 20 issues were addressed through on-site advice, and 12 formal warnings were issued.

The NSPCA also stated that the majority of horses on display were in good condition. However, the reported interventions raise important questions about the welfare challenges associated with animal trading at large public fairs.

E๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š Dear animal friends in and beyond, ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) - Cavan/Managhan Branch (-starting soon) would be very grateful for your support in helping Heartstone Veganic Ecosanctuary in County Cavan. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿพ

We are reaching out to ask whether anyone might be in a position to offer support, advice or assistance to the dedicated woman who runs this sanctuary and works tirelessly to provide a safe haven for the animals in her care. โค๏ธ๐Ÿก

Despite her unwavering commitment and hard work, the sanctuary receives very limited financial support. While a small number of kind donors contribute what they can, these donations unfortunately fall far short of covering the ongoing costs of running the sanctuary. ๐Ÿ’š

The situation has become increasingly challenging, placing a significant emotional and financial strain on the woman behind this important work. Without additional support, the future of the sanctuary โ€” and the well-being of the animals who depend on it โ€” may be at risk. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ™ Could you help us find a sponsor, patron, benefactor or funding opportunity that could provide some much-needed financial stability and help ensure this sanctuary can continue its vital work?

๐Ÿ’š Whether you can offer practical assistance, suggest useful contacts, share funding opportunities or simply help spread the word, every little bit of support could make a difference.

๐Ÿ“ข Please share this appeal and help us reach people who may be able to support Heartstone Veganic Ecosanctuary. Together, we can help give these animals the safe and secure future they deserve. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฑ

Thank you for your kindness, compassion and continued support for animal welfare. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) proudly supports this petition.

The undersigned:

I strongly believe in education programmes from preschool to college, workplaces, sports clubs and organisations to teach respect for animals and people, prevent cruelty and challenge violent and predatory behaviour.

I demand justice for Felix! Ireland needs stricter animal cruelty laws, stronger penalties and effective education to prevent abuse.

We need:

๐Ÿพ Strict laws and stronger penalties for animal cruelty.

๐Ÿพ Accountability for animal abusers, including appropriate public identification in accordance with the law.

๐Ÿพ Animal welfare education from preschool to college.

๐Ÿพ Action against online platforms that lure young people into criminal activity.

๐Ÿพ A dedicated Animal Welfare Officer.

๐Ÿพ Education for pet owners on keeping pets safe, microchipped, trackable where appropriate, and close to home.

Felix was family. He had every right to walk freely without being kidnapped, abused, tortured and killed. Anyone responsible for such horrific acts must face appropriate consequences, regardless of age.

We must also ask why young people commit such cruelty. Where are their parents and guardians? What influences lead them to harm innocent, voiceless animals? Education, parental responsibility and early intervention must be part of the solution.

I am sick of animal abusers getting away with repeated cruelty without accountability. Animal abuse must never be ignored, excused or tolerated.

โœ๏ธ Please sign and share this petition with your family, friends and colleagues. Every signature counts! Letโ€™s reach 20,000 and demand a kinder, safer Ireland.

๐Ÿด๐Ÿšจ PAW REPEATLY CALLS FOR AN END TO ALL HORSE FAIRS IN IRELAND! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) says the reported animal welfare concerns at this yearโ€™s Ballinasloe Horse Fair raise serious questions about whether these events can adequately protect all animals involved.

๐Ÿ’” The Ballinsloe fair ran from October 4โ€“11, coinciding with World Animal Day on October 4, shocking disgraceful !!!

According to reports and a statement from the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), inspectors responded to 61 logged welfare concerns during three days of inspections. A total of 26 animals were taken into care across 17 separate seizures, including horses, ponies, dogs, puppies, poultry, goats and ferrets. A further 20 issues were addressed through on-site advice, and 12 formal warnings were issued.

The NSPCA noted that the majority of horses on display were in good condition. PAW welcomes transparency and respectfully asks: Can the NSPCA provide further information about the welfare concerns identified, while protecting any necessary confidential details? The public deserves to understand what happened and what lessons can be learned.

โœŠ PAW has repeatedly called for horse fairs in Ireland, including Ballinasloe in Co. Galway and Spancil Hill in Co. Clare, to be phased out in favour of stronger animal protection measures.

Tradition matters, but animal welfare must come first. Animals are sentient aka living beings, not simply commodities to be traded. Where serious welfare concerns arise, effective oversight, accountability and meaningful protections are essential.

๐Ÿ“ข PAW urges the Irish Government to seriously examine whether horse fairs should continue and to prioritise animal welfare in future policy and legislation.

๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š Tradition should never stand in the way of protecting animals.

๐Ÿพ PAW calls for an All-Ireland Approach to Animal Welfare! ๐Ÿพ

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) believes that animal welfare must be addressed through a coordinated, All-Ireland approach that protects all animals across the island, regardless of where they live or their legal status.

This must include companion animals, such as dogs and cats, animals reared on farms, and wildlife. Animal welfare does not stop at the border, and neither should the laws and protections designed to safeguard animals.

PAW therefore welcomes and supports Dog Law Irelandโ€™s call for an All-Ireland approach to dog welfare, as highlighted in its recent appearance before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture.

Dog Law Ireland has raised important concerns about differences in proposed legislation between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Without coordinated standards, stronger protections in one jurisdiction could encourage dog breeders to relocate to areas with weaker regulations, potentially undermining animal welfare.

PAW supports stronger legislation, effective enforcement, adequate resources, and independent oversight to ensure that all dogs receive the protection they deserve. We also believe that welfare safeguards must address commercial breeding and backyard breeding alike, leaving no animals vulnerable to exploitation.

๐ŸŒฟ Animal welfare is a shared responsibility. We need cooperation across the island to close legislative gaps, prevent animal suffering, and establish consistent, robust protections for all animals.

PAW believes that every animal deserves compassion, dignity, and protection โ€” everywhere in Ireland.

๐Ÿพ PAW CALLS FOR DEDICATED ANIMAL WELFARE OFFICERS IN EVERY COUNTY IN IRELAND

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) has repeatedly called for dedicated animal welfare officers in every county, including County Mayo.

๐Ÿ“ฐ Read more: https://www.westernpeople.ie/news/call-for-animal-welfare-officer-in-mayo_arid-20330804.html

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (SOUTH)

Animal welfare responsibilities are divided between local authorities, authorised officers and animal welfare organisations.

County councils have roles in dog control and related services, while animal welfare enforcement is also carried out under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 by authorised officers, including those from animal welfare organisations.

However, shared responsibilities are not the same as having a dedicated animal welfare officer in every county to help coordinate responses to cruelty, neglect and welfare concerns.

Charities such as the NSPCA and local animal welfare groups play a vital role, often while facing significant resource pressures.

๐Ÿ• NORTHERN IRELAND (NORTH)

Under the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011, responsibility is shared between DAERA, local councils and the PSNI. Councils deliver non-farmed animal welfare enforcement through a regional arrangement covering five areas, rather than having a dedicated officer for every individual council.

๐Ÿ’š ANIMALS DESERVE BETTER!

PAW believes every county North and South of the Irish border should have access to dedicated animal welfare expertise, effective enforcement and adequate resources to protect animals from cruelty and neglect.

Animal welfare should not depend on where an animal lives or how stretched local charities are. Every concern deserves to be taken seriously, and animals deserve timely protection.

It's time to make animal welfare a priority across Ireland! ๐Ÿพ
