Today Sunday 30th of August we said goodbye to Barry Ellard who retires from our unit at Kilmore and from the Irish Coast Guard leaving behind over 10 years service and commitment.

Barry was a dedicated volunteer and was also an integral part of our school water safety program calling to the primary school to deliver water safety info sessions with the schools every year before the holidays.

We take this opportunity to wish Barry all the best and thank him for his commitment to maritime SAR over the years .

Thank you Barry , you leave big boots to fill .

Recent Incidents:

Thursday 25th of June tasked at 23.50 to assist An Garda Síochána Wexford with a missing person search at Bannow Bay Area .

Using our drone with its night search capabilities we searched area’s of interest . Person was located safe , unit stood down and returned to base shortly after 02.00am

Sunday 28th June tasked at 16.34 by our Rescue Coordination Centre in Dublin to Kilmore Quay harbour following a call for assistance from a Yacht in the harbour that was taking on water .

We worked closely with our colleagues at Kilmore Quay RNLI and assisted in getting the yacht to the slip where the remaining water was pumped off . Great teamwork from both organisations. We were stood down and returned to base shortly after 18.00 .

If you see or think you see someone in trouble , please call 112 and ask for the Coast Guard or VHF 16 while on the water .
