People Before Profit Cork Eco-socialism for the 21st Century. Be the change you wish to see in the Rebel County đźš© We are opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia. Join us!

People Before Profit is Ireland’s largest and most active all Ireland left-wing party. We're a grassroots movement that opposes neo-liberal polices and sees 'people power' as key to improving our society. As a green socialist party, we have a long record of campaigning on environmental issues, including Shell to Sea in Mayo, against oil rigs in Dublin Bay and to keep public ownership of our forests. We were hugely engaged in the marriage equality and Repeal campaigns, and we are actively campaigning for an end to the inhumane Direct Provision system. We fight for workers’ rights and a fair distribution of wealth. We want to tax the corporations and the rich and fight for equality nationally and internationally. What we stand for

•Make the big corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share of tax.
•Make housing a human right.
•End the two-tier health system and establish a national health service, that's free with much improved access and waiting list times.
•Create a living wage and job security.
•Major investment into public transport that's more frequent, cheaper, and cleaner.
•Abolish unjust taxes and end rip off insurance.
•Guarantee 33 hours of free childcare per week.
•Scrap third level fees and insist on smaller classes.
•Take Ireland’s natural resources into public ownership.
•Support strong trade unions that stand up for workers, end outsourcing and exploitation.
•End privatization – keep the banks in public ownership.
•Stop climate change – move away from a profit addicted economy. Major investment in sustainable energy, public transport and public recycling infrastructure.
•Proper funding for local government and genuine public participation, transparency and accountability in planning and development issues.
•Oppose war. Defend Irish neutrality. US troops out of Shannon.

People Before Profit Cork stands in solidarity with Praxis, the Artist Union of Ireland, and in solidarity with all public sector workers that went on strike for better pay.
Although many artists, musicians, actors, and dancers are self-employed, recent Arts Council budget constraints directly impact their livelihoods.
We encourage everyone to support these strikes and demand a better deal for all workers!

12/10/2026

This Wednesday there will be a national strike and protest over the on-going public pay dispute.
This will be the largest public sector strike since 2009.
The strike will include trade unions such as FĂłrsa, SIPTU and the INTO.
This will affect teachers, healthcare workers, civil servants and more.
Come support these vital workers and fight to make Ireland affordable for all.

In part 1 of this speech PBP member and Affordable Ireland organizer Maggie O'Kane outlines issues around Homelessness,
Rents and Data Centres.

Currently there are over 18,000 people homeless and living in emergency accommodation.
5830 of those are children.
We cannot allow this to become normalized.

Tenants are paying increasingly extortionate rents with ordinary workers being squeezed and threatened with hikes of up to 36%.

With public transport fares set to increase in a system that is not fit for purpose people are being forced to rely on cars, only to be hit with higher fuel costs.

While the government calls for reduced water usage and families are told to turn down their thermostats, this Government rolls out the red carpet for Data Centres, granting them resources and infrastructure that could have built 50,000 new homes.

This Data Centre will consume enough power for 170,000 homes using a private gas plant to bypass the grid. It will use millions of litres of clean, public, drinking water.

Irish consumers pay on average 40c per KWh for electricity contributing to the Affordability crisis.
Data Centres like this one will only pay 20c per KWh on average.

This Saturday at 11:00 AM we are having a coffee morning to discuss the expansion of the JCD Data Centre in Little Island.

We need a moratorium on Data Centres.

Come along for a chat, share your concerns, and connect with organizers.

Sylvia, a Hungarian immigrant in Cork, has spent 5 years clearing storm drains by hand to protect her street from flooding. The City Council is letting her down, but she won't let her community down.

This shows exactly why we need to properly fund our local councils and invest in well-paid, unionized essential workers to maintain our infrastructure.

Demand the fully funded public services we need and celebrate our neighbors in our communities!

Rents Hikes: The recent news out of South Dublin is wake-up call for Cork! Councillor Cllr Jess Spear is taking the council executive to the High Court for ignoring a 15-to-1 democratic vote and pushing through rent hikes for social housing tenants of up to 52%.

Here in Cork, similar rent changes are reportedly in the works, and we need to be ready. Private rents in Cork City have already soared by 10% in the last year. Daft.ie has reported average rents in Cork City increased by €2,000.

This is a nationwide drive to squeeze working families, pensioners, and lone parents during a cost-of-living crisis. We can't let unelected officials override the democratic process and push people further into poverty while neglecting housing maintenance.
We need to fight back.

Cllr Jess Spear says executives unilateral decision will bring hikes of up to 52% for some lone parents and 41.5% for pensioners. Campaigners vow to fight on in the courts and in the 2027 council budget.
