Cork City Public Participation Network A network of 200+ community & voluntary, social inclusion, and environmental groups. Every local authority in Ireland is required to have a PPN.

Our PPN is designed to encourage the city’s many communities to contribute to the making and implementing of decisions and policies which impact upon them and the areas where they live. The PPN is also an important tool for the City Council to keep in touch with communities. So, not only will PPN representatives go to City Hall to have the voices of the network heard, Cork City Council will also call on the PPN to elect persons from its membership when input is required. The network will also work to anticipate policy being developed by the Council and ensure that our members can participate in this process and influence the outcome. Our membership has a wealth of combined knowledge and expertise and the network will do all it can to make sure that this is taken into account by our elected representatives and policy makers. The PPN will also work hard to help member organisations to achieve their objectives. This might mean creating opportunities for peer to peer support and learning, organising training in grant applications, using social media or fundraising or holding themed events to raise public awareness around a certain issue. The great strength of our network lies in our membership. By joining up, you will meet committed people from across the community, volunteer, social inclusion and environmental sectors, learn from them and share your experiences and knowledge.

: Barriers to Accessing Bank Accounts for Small Community Groups

Social Justice Ireland (SJI), an independent think tank and advocacy organisation, is conducting a short survey to better understand how Community Groups access basic financial services, and where gaps may exist.

Community Groups often need a dedicated bank account in order to receive grants and funding. Sharing your perspectives you'll contribute to research that aims to improve access to basic financial products for community groups.

Closing Date: 31 October

Thank you to Roscommon PPN for hosting such rich couple days at the National Conference in the Hodson Bay. It was great for Cork City PPN delegates to meet the wider network and engage with a variety of topics around community resilience last week. Much appreciation to all who put themselves forward to represent Cork City Public Participation Network this year.

This year's theme was “Empowering Communities through Connection, Collaboration and Cohesion” - we'll circulate the summary report once available.

Last week was our Coordinator Alannah O’Callaghan’s last one in the role. Alannah was with the PPN for almost 3 years and will be deeply missed by the PPN membership and colleagues in Cork City and beyond.

We are wishing her every happiness and success for the future. We are happy to hear that she’s going to continue in Cork City, and you’ll be able to find her working with communities in the Knocknaheeny area.

The Secretariat “would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Alannah for her time, energy and commitment given to Cork City PPN. Her work has contributed greatly to supporting our members, strengthening our network and helping to progress the work of the PPN across Cork City.”
