The Devil is officially in the Dancehall 🎶

Once vibrant hubs of music, community and freedom, our dance halls came under fierce attack in the 1930s from church and state, who labelled them dangerous, immoral and “the devil’s work.”

Now, 90 years on, the dancers rebel again!

Take some time out after Culture Night to join us in looking at how we can support disability access in the arts at two upcoming events.

On Tuesday 22nd September from 10am, we will look at how advocacy tools like Access Riders can support inclusion in the arts and ensure that greater numbers of artists can avail of opportunities such as arts funding for practice development and projects. We will hear from Emma Klemencic, and artist Moss Russell. This will event is one of our regular I.D.E.A. Exchanges, a relaxed informal gathering of arts workers with an interest in peer learning on best practice in Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access.

On Tuesday 29th September from 10am, Siobhan Clancy, Assistant Arts Officer - Community Arts, will demonstrate how to apply for access fundings for applicants to the Cork City Council 2027 Artist and the Community Award, Artist Bursary and Project Scheme.

Both events are highly recommended for Cork-based practitioners that are themselves, or supporting others who are, disabled or neurodivergent. Follow this Eventbrite link for booking https://www.eventbrite.ie/o/cork-city-arts-office-40351989423

Elements of both events will be recording and made available as resources here https://www.corkcity.ie/en/council-services/services/arts-culture-heritage/arts-office/arts-funding/

Irish Sign Language Interpretation will be provided at both events. Please get in touch if you have any other access requirements.
