Last month, Ms. McCarthy’s 6th class spent some time looking at the September 11th Attack on its’ 25th Anniversary. The boys did silhouette art, wrote moving diary entries from various perspectives, looked at the idea of primary and secondary evidence and some even went to the effort of creating their own World Trade Centres with materials found at home or 3D printers.

The lads were extremely engaged, interested and curious about the events and enjoyed learning about something they had previously only heard about in passing. Well done 6th class, brilliant work!! 👏🏼

Pilates for Parents is starting back!

We’re delighted to be starting a new 6-week block of Pilates for Parents on Friday, October 16th.

Classes will run from 8.40am–10.20am, giving you a great opportunity to get moving, strengthen and stretch, while enjoying some time for yourself.

Whether you’ve been coming along already or you’re thinking of joining for the first time, everyone is very welcome! ✨

Today, September 24th is SNA Appreciation Day for 2026 and we are so lucky in Blarney Street to have the most incredible team of SNAs that make our school what it is. 🤍

Thank you for all that you do for your colleagues but of course, the children in our school. We couldn’t do what we do without you all, and you brighten up the days of the children you work with. The team that is Blarney Street wouldn’t be the same without you! 💙💛

We hope today made you feel special, appreciated and loved, because you really are. From being called “the best thing since sliced bread”, “super Sandra”, “the glue that holds us all together” and as one of the children in junior infants said “for helping us very a lot” and a child in seniors saying “for helping us get an ice pack when we get hurted”. There are so many more things you all do day in, day out. 🙌🏼

We appreciate you all today, and every day!! 👏🏼👏🏼

Thank you to 6th class for getting information from the students around the school to create personal cards for each SNA, and for helping decorate the staff room. You all made our wonderful SNAs feel very special indeed ❤️

Tuesday morning saw 2nd class deliver our first assembly of the year to the theme of “Inspiring innovative methods of teaching and learning” and what a treat it was. Their wonderful rendition of a Zootropolis song, their beautiful speaking with very important messages about how we all learn differently, how mistakes help us learn and how we all learn at different paces was a fitting start to a new school year.

Some of their “lightbulb” moments are below, beautiful individual pieces which encompass both the assembly theme and our school motto of “learning and doing”.

We are so lucky in Blarney Street to have the tradition where our previous years 6th class pop back in to let our current 6th class know how First Year is going. The boys in the AG popped in on their first half day and answered questions about subjects, teachers, yonder pouches, classes and all things secondary school. It was so good to see them. It was getting them out of the Astro was the challenge!!

Thanks for calling in lads, the boys, teachers and of course Ms. McCarthy were all thrilled to see you. 👏🏼👏🏼 keep up the hard work in First Year and see you all soon!

Blarney Street School will host a Secondary Schoom Fayre on Wednesday 16th September from 11.30 - 1.30 in the school for all parents/guardians of 4th, 5th and 6th class students. This is a great opportunity to meet representatives from secondary schools in our local area, find out more about the schools and ask any questions you may have.
