Using technology to improve fertility on Scottish beef farm 🐂

For the McCornick Family in Dumfriesshire, Tru-Test Active Tags have become an invaluable tool for managing fertility and herd health.

By following the app's recommended breeding window, they've achieved strong conception rates and tighter calving patterns, while gaining greater confidence in every insemination decision.

The tags have also helped identify cycling issues, repeat breeders, potential bull fertility problems and health concerns, as well as alerting them to cows close to calving.

Bringing farmers, students and industry experts together 🐄

Our Event Day brought farmers, industry experts and 26 Dairy Herd Management students from Salesian Agricultural College together for a packed programme covering everything from dry-off management and making the most of your farm to agricultural grants, farm investment and the role of technology in improving farm performance.

Highlights included a farm tour with host farmers, Simon and Carol Breen, alongside Joseph and Ellen O'Neill sharing their experience with Active Tag, and a showcase of Datamars Livestock products led by Business Development Manager, Theresa Sheehy.

A special thank you to all our speakers for sharing their knowledge and experience, and to Simon and Carol Breen for kindly hosting us on their farm.

National Ploughing Championships 2026 - what a week! 🚜🐄🐑

It's been a busy few days for the team at the Ploughing Championships, with plenty of conversations around how technology can make life on farm easier, more efficient and better informed.

We were also delighted to welcome Fin Walsh and Joe & Ellen O'Neill to the stand for a chat about their experience with the Tru-Test Active Tag collar system on their farms.

From weighing and EID to animal health and monitoring, there's been lots of interest in what technology can bring to the farm.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and had a chat with the team. It's been a brilliant few days!

“Overall, everything was excellent, to be fair. We’re delighted with it.”

That’s the verdict from Mike & Michael Dehenny in Cullen, Co. Cork, after introducing Tru-Test Active Tag to their herd.

As well as supporting breeding, one of the biggest benefits they've seen is having an earlier indication when something might not be right with an animal.

💬 “Health and sickness was another big thing for us. Before the cow even comes to the yard, you know there’s something wrong, so you can keep an eye on her and act on it early.”

And getting started with the technology proved straightforward too:

💬 “The collars were very easy to put on as well. Theresa helped us initially with the installation and putting the collars on, but we did the heifers ourselves and it was very easy to do. That was another big plus.”
