Fire Safety Week 2026 runs until Sunday, 18th of October.

Do you know which fire extinguisher to use in an emergency? Not all fire extinguishers are the same. Hear from one of our Cork County Council firefighters which extinguisher to use and when.

Periodic Checks:
✅ Check the service date is current
✅ Ensure the safety pin and tamper seal are intact

In case of fire make sure the extinguisher is suitable for the type of fire, pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire, squeeze the handle and sweep from side to side.

Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher safely could make all the difference in an emergency.

Students from the Millstreet & Boherbue region took part in a Multi-Schools Road Safety Event hosted by Cork County Council and Millstreet Community School.

The day featured interactive sessions from An Garda Síochána Cork, Cork County Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and our Road Safety Promotion Officer, along with a powerful presentation from road safety advocate Mark Dalton.

Students also witnessed a simulated road traffic collision response, gaining valuable insight into the work of our emergency services and the importance of making safe choices on our roads.

Thanks to all agencies, staff and students involved.
