🚆 A major day for Kiltimagh and Mayo.
Delighted to be in Kiltimagh to officially turn the sod on the new Pro Rail Academy alongside Minister Sean Canney and British Ambassador Kara Owen.
This is a really significant investment in skills, innovation and opportunity for the West of Ireland and a major vote of confidence in Kiltimagh’s future.
I’ve worked closely with Eamonn and Siobhan Maloney on this project and want to acknowledge their vision, ambition and determination in bringing it from concept to reality. Their belief in Kiltimagh and the potential of our region deserves enormous credit.
When operational, the academy will combine specialist training, research and innovation, developing expertise in areas such as rail signalling, electrification, surveying, railway civils and project management, helping to build the next talent needed for Ireland’s growing rail and infrastructure network.
Most importantly, it will create valuable career pathways for young people closer to home. For too long, many young people felt they had to leave rural communities to pursue specialist careers. Investments like this help change that narrative by creating new opportunities to learn, work and succeed here in Mayo.
Today’s sod turning wasn’t just about this new building. It was about developing the foundations for future skills, future jobs and future opportunities for Kiltimagh, Mayo and the wider region.
