Members of the Mayo Cultural Companions Network attended a Meet Up event on Wednesday, 30th September 2026 at the Ellison Hotel, Castlebar.

The event consisted of a short presentation to the network by Asst. Arts Officer, Jennifer Mongan, a brief Q&A and discussion with the members and finally, David Hope and Darran Bourke from Music and Health Ireland joined the group and regaled them with their trademark tunes and stories.

The Meet Up provided an opportunity for attendees to create connections with others and created a strong sense of belonging and community. Conversations highlighted the importance of being part of a community and reinforced the positive impact that arts and cultural participation can have on wellbeing as we age.

The Devil’s in the Dance Hall

Once vibrant hubs of music, community and freedom, these dance halls came under fierce attack in the 1930s from church and state, who labelled them dangerous, immoral and “the devil’s work.”

Now, 90 years on, the dancers rebel again! There’ll be no dance hall licence obtained for these grand dance nights, where the devil himself will be sure to sweep you off your feet on the dance floor.

Come dance to the roaring sound of The Gralton Big Band where Edwina Guckian will teach you all the moves and have you jazzing all night long.

Expect swing, trad, foxtrots, slow sets and short skirts. Expect sean nós, shim-shamming, lindy hopping, set-dancing, and scandal!

So come dressed in your finest 1930s gear, polish up your brogues, wear your boldest lipstick and make it a night you’ll never forget, dancing with the devil in the dancehall.

A year in the making! The beautiful new Blue Dot mosaic by artist Annaliese Brown, developed in collaboration with community groups in Louisburgh, has been officially unveiled, celebrating our local rivers, biodiversity and community.

This special project was funded by Creative Ireland in partnership with LAWPRO and C.A.L.L.

Wild Atlantic Words Festival - Mayo's historic All-Ireland win, the rise of artificial intelligence and the fight to protect our oceans all take centre stage in Castlebar from Tuesday 6 to Sunday 11 October.

Booking info: All events at this year’s festival are free of charge and on a first come, first served basis. Donations are welcome and much appreciated. The Festival Dome is heated, however, we recommend wrapping up warmly. All events take place in the Festival Dome, Bridge St, Castlebar, unless stated otherwise.

Ballina One Act Drama Festival returns for the 11th year at Ballina Arts Centre on Friday 6th Nov, Saturday 7th Nov and Sunday 8th Nov. (Note Early Curtain Up time)

A feast of drama awaits with three One Act plays each night. This festival is run under the auspices of the Joint Amateur Drama Council of Ireland and The Drama League of Ireland. It is one of 23 festivals on the Preliminary circuit. Groups will be aiming to achieve 36 points to attend the All-Ireland Finals this year taking place in An Grianán, Letterkenny.

The following groups are competing: Butt Drama Circle: Charlestown Drama Group: Upstage Players: The Moat Club-Naas: Insight Theatre: Letterkenny Musical and Drama Group: Roscommon Drama Group: Clann Machua: Castleconnor Drama Group.
