Thank you Carlow Nationalist for promoting our events on Friday 9 October 2026 in Borris to celebrate The European Day of Rock Art. Adult creative workshop with Máiréad Holohan in Borris Library at 2pm-4:30pm (email [email protected] to reserve a place... but be quick). Those in the workshop will enjoy a short tallk about rock art in Blackstairs Mountains by Dr. Seimí Ó Murchú. Evening lecture at 6pm in Step House Hotel by Prof. Muiris O'Suilleabháin titled 'Bringing rock art in from the cold'. Artwork from school children from NS in Borris working with artist Jules Micheal will join with adult artwork working with Mairéad Holohan and will be displayed from 5:30pm in Ballroom in Step House Hotel. Cuppa on arrival from 5:30pm. All welcome. Really enjoyable meeting with Members of the County Carlow Chamber Nora Ryan, Nicola Doran and Eoin Kehoe discussing the progress of 'Our Street, My Story', our collaborative oral history project for Carlow town in Seven Oaks Hotel Carlow. Oral Historian Adrian Roche The History Trail is undertaking the oral history recordings that focus on the Architectural Conservation Area of this first phase of the project. This project is funded by The Heritage Council and Carlow County Council. This project is an action of the Historic Towns Initiative Plan- Heritage-Led Regeneration for Carlow Town. This just made the month of October even better, looking forward to seeing the facts and footage. Active Carlow Carlow County Library Carlow County Council we had some fun talking and learning about bats with our 8-12 year olds in our first Heritage Camp in July this year. We might get some pointers for the 2027 Heritage Camp.

We have 9 resident bat species in Ireland - we will share some facts and footage of our bats throughout the month of October 🗓

The National Bat Database of Ireland is home to thousands of bat records thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, bat groups, staff, NPWS, Vincent Wildlife Trust, NBDC, ecologists, and citizen scientists across the country for over 20 years.

Are we the first County Council to tell the story of the Heritage of our Emergency Services through video ?... we might be... but either way we have the best of the best in County Carlow. Really nice to have Cathaoirleach Cllr Thomas Kinsella launch the video of the Heritage of Carlow County Fire Service.
