At Ireland’s premier visitor attraction, you are invited to explore three wonderful experiences – the acclaimed 15th century Bunratty Castle, the 19th century Bunratty Folk Park and the Village Street. Bunratty Castle
The Castle is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland. Built in 1425, it was restored in 1954 to its former medieval splendour and now contains mainly 15th and 16th century furnishings, tapestries, and works of art which capture the mood of those times. Today, the castle stands peacefully in delightful grounds. The houses and cottages of the folk park spread out at the foot of its massive walls, much in the way that the cottages and crofts of old would have clustered around its base. We invite you to wander through the castle and marvel at the finest collection of medieval furniture in the country which brings to life a vital part of our Medieval past. Bunratty Folk Park
Featuring over 30 buildings in a ‘living’ village and rural setting. Rural farmhouses, village shops and streets are recreated and furnished as they would have appeared at that time according to their social standing, from the poorest one roomed dwelling to Bunratty House a fine example of a Georgian residence built 1804 home of the Studdarts, the last family to occupy Bunratty Castle.

Did you know that the tradition of carving pumpkins for Halloween originated right here in Ireland?

Back in the 18th century, the Irish carved turnips and placed them with lights in their windows to ward off wandering spirits on All Hallows' Eve. When Irish immigrants brought this tradition to North America, pumpkins became a more accessible alternative.🎃

Three more characters lurking around Bunratty this Halloween...

😈 Maleficent, Mistress of the Dark Fae — Crowned with towering horns and massive feathered wings, Maleficent moves slowly through the crowd, wings spreading wide to cast guests in her shadow. Catch her eye, and you might wonder if she's deciding to strike or just admiring her prey.
(Monday, October 26th only)

🤹 Frederico Fandango — Contortionist, juggler, and clown, Frederico has wowed crowds at major festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe. Side-splittingly funny and utterly fearless, he pushes himself to the extreme with juggling, jokes, and daring physical stunts.

🕷️ The Human Spider — Bunratty revives a classic sideshow illusion — a mysterious half-human, half-spider creature that will leave you questioning what's real. Step inside, if you dare. (Limited numbers, rotational admission)

Have you ever felt a sudden chill while walking through Bunratty Castle & Folk Park… or thought you saw a shadow move where no one stood? 👀

Here in Ireland, we speak of the Sidhe - the Fairy Folk of Ireland. Not tiny winged creatures, but proud, powerful beings from An Saol Eile - the Otherworld. 🌫️

They’re said to dwell in ancient mounds, bogs, forests, and forts…places just like these grounds. 🍃

Some say they’re the Tuatha Dé Danann, ancient gods who vanished beneath the hills. Others whisper they’re fallen angels, caught between heaven and earth.

So if you wander through Bunratty at dusk, tread softly…you never know who might be walking beside you. 🌒✨
