If you want to save lots of money..

Bulb planting season is finally here.. by planting Bulbs of daffodils, Crocus, muscari and even alliums you'll get more colour for your money by planting them as Bulbs now than buying plants in pots next Spring.

With almost this fabulous weather we're having right now , you'll be delighted with yourself next February when you see the vibrant crocus start to appear, or those large balls of purple Alliums in May

Which Bulbs are you planting this October??

I think I’ve been putting off showing you this one.

This is what my tunnel looked like after months of being completely neglected.

Tomatoes everywhere. Courgettes taking over. And absolutely no chance of actually walking through it.

I’ve been feeling pretty burnt out this year after closing the garden centre, and if I’m honest, the garden has been quite low down the list of priorities.

Which is probably worth saying out loud.

Because I spend a lot of my time helping other people with their gardens, and it would be very easy to imagine that my own garden is always under control.

It isn’t.

Sometimes life gets busy. Sometimes you lose your gardening mojo. Sometimes you just can't face dealing with the jungle you've created.

So I pulled everything out.

And found 103 courgettes on the floor. 😂

They were going to die with the frost anyway, and if I'd left them there, I'd probably have had a rather impressive courgette population next year.

The tunnel is empty again.

Not perfect.

Just manageable.

And right now, that's enough.

If your garden has got away from you this year too, you're definitely not the only one.

Maybe you’re not bad at gardening.

Maybe you just haven’t had someone show you what to do in a way that actually makes sense.

I see this all the time.

People arrive at my workshops saying:

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“I’m useless at gardening.”

“Nothing grows for me.”

And then we get outside and actually do something.

A rose gets deadheaded.
A plant gets planted.
Something gets pruned.
Parsley grows

And suddenly it clicks.

You don’t need to know everything before you start gardening.

You start, you have a go, and you learn as you go.

So tell me…

What’s the one thing in your garden you’re not confident doing yet?

Its just soooo tempting.... You see a gorgeous plant, imagine it in your garden and think that’ll sort that corner out....

Its just soooo tempting.... You see a gorgeous plant, imagine it in your garden and think that’ll sort that corner out.

I’ve done it too.

But sometimes we’re buying plants because we don’t know what the garden is actually missing.

Before you buy anything else.. stop and look at what you already have..
What’s missing?

Structure? Height? Colour? Something for later in the season? Or perhaps you’ve simply got too many individual plants that don’t work together

And if you’re constantly buying plants but still feel like your garden isn’t “there” yet, that might be the bit to look at.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted by the garden centre trolley.
