To celebrate National Heritage Week, a wonderful bus tour was organised by Heritage officer Ann Marie Ward and several Tidy Towns members attended today. Along the way they visited many graveyards including the Old Church of Ireland and graveyard after which they had lunch in The Bridewell. Carmel O'Callaghan and Adam Pringle shared some of their knowledge with the attendees. Then they headed to Moybologue Historical Society - Cumann Seanchais Mhaigh Bolg, where they were hosted by Brian Callaghan.

Hope to see you there.

Best of luck on your day, same as ours!

As part of National Heritage Week 2026, Cavan Tidy Towns is delighted to invite the public to a special Annagilliff Graveyard and Church Tour and Presentation on Thursday, 20th August. This unique event offers an opportunity to discover one of County Cavan's most significant historic sites while learning about the people, stories and heritage that have shaped the local community over the centuries.
The event forms part of Cavan Tidy Towns' ongoing commitment to protecting, celebrating and promoting the rich natural, built and cultural heritage of County Cavan. Through conservation projects, historical research, community engagement and educational initiatives, Cavan Tidy Towns works tirelessly to ensure that important heritage sites such as Annagilliff are preserved and appreciated by future generations.
Visitors will enjoy a guided walk through the historic graveyard and church, followed by an informative presentation exploring the history, archaeology and local significance of the site. Whether you have a personal connection to Annagilliff, an interest in local history, or simply enjoy discovering hidden gems, this event promises an engaging and memorable experience.
Light refreshments will be served following the presentation, providing an opportunity to meet fellow heritage enthusiasts, chat with members of Cavan Tidy Towns, and learn more about the group's ongoing work to protect and enhance the heritage, biodiversity and environment of County Cavan. Everyone is warmly welcome.

A beautiful photo from Peter McConnell's collection, do you know what connects the man and the headstone? Ok Captain James Kelly and Francis Sheehy Skeffington both born in Bailieborough and both buried in Glasnevin cemetery, where this photo was taken. Kellys pub was next door to the Model School where Sheehy Skeffington's father was a school inspector. Both in their own ways worked for peace, all in different times.
