Last night we celebrated the birthday of my Ayayaten’s daughter Margaux at the Kusina Valentin in Paoay.
It has been literally’ Birthday after Birthday’. First the birthday of ‘ Mai Mai’ jherlin, followed by the 90th birthday of Nana Cionita the mother of Gloria Nichols. Followed by two birthdays on the same night- the Birthday of Bonnie Tagatac and then the Birthday of Aurora cook.
Margaux turned 25. She is an incoming third year student taking up Medicine at M.M.S.U. She invited her boyfriend Enrico and a number of her classmates.
What is interesting about her choice of Kusina Valentin is that the Proprietor and owner is none other then Mike Diaz. I had heard alot about Mike Diaz over the years. I had always been under the assumption that the previous Restaurant Herencia was run by Samuel Blas only to find out when we both met up in Bali for the wedding of Jack Mansukani and Nicole that Mike was the actual owner and that sam was leasing it from Mike and later relinquished it back to Mike.
The restaurant is named after Valentin Diaz a Paoayeno born a stone’s throw from the restaurant.He was one of the five founding fathers of the Katipunan and later acted as the first treasurer of the group. He is also one of the signatories of the pact of Biak-na bato.The restaurant is now run by the fourth generation descendants- Mike, Melanie, Rico and Pia Diaz
