Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) RT4D supports AMS in benefitting from an open, free and rules-based trading system.

The $53.3 million Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) initiative, funded by both the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, assists ASEAN Member States in meeting their commitments and realising the advantages offered by the Agreement establishing the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Through the AANZFTA Implemen

tation Support Program (AISP) and the RCEP Implementation Support Program (RISP), RT4D provides tailored support to enhance the capabilities of ASEAN Member States by strengthening skills, building networks, facilitating policy options and ensuring that trade benefits everyone, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), women and people with disabilities. The Regional Trade for Development Initiative:

- provides ASEAN with access to world class technical expertise to support economic cooperation activities.

- delivers economic cooperation activities, working closely with ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Secretariat.

- has a strong focus on less developed ASEAN economies to ensure that it responds to the different needs and readiness of ASEAN.

- facilitates implementation of the provisions of selected FTAs to support inclusive development outcomes.

🌏 Project design consultancy roles for four RT4D-supported projects in Cambodia

Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) is seeking consultants, firms or consortia to support the development of Project Designs for four projects under the RCEP Implementation Support Program (RISP) in Cambodia.

🇱🇦🌿 Strengthening inclusive local product development and e-commerce skills in Lao PDR

📅 21–22 May 2026 | Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) and the Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP), in partnership with the Institute for Industry, Commerce and Energy (IICE), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, delivered a two-day capacity-building workshop on ODOP Development and E-Commerce.

🧺 ODOP — One District, One Product — supports local producers to develop distinctive products rooted in local skills, culture and resources. Strengthening ODOP products can help communities improve quality, reach new markets and create more inclusive economic opportunities.

👥✨ The workshop brought together around 40 MSMEs, entrepreneurs, ODOP producers and People with Disability to build practical skills in product development, packaging, certification, digital marketing, e-commerce and AI tools.

📦💻 Across two days, participants worked on strengthening product competitiveness, improving packaging, exploring online sales channels, and connecting with finance and business support services.

🤝 Participants also showcased their products, supporting peer learning, networking and potential business linkages.

📈 The workshop supported more inclusive and sustainable MSME development in Lao PDR, helping ODOP producers — particularly women and People with Disability — access opportunities in domestic and regional markets, including under RCEP.

🇵🇭🌏 Connecting small businesses led by women with export support and market linkages under RCEP

📅 19–20 May 2026 | Manila, Philippines — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry – Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB), delivered a two-day workshop on Enhancing Women MSME Export Readiness under RCEP.

👩‍💼📦 With strong participation across both days — over 100 participants on Day 1 and nearly 90 on Day 2 — the workshop supported small businesses led by women to build export knowledge, confidence and connections.

📘 Day 1 focused on practical export essentials — RCEP opportunities, documentation, rules of origin, financing, pricing, packaging, digital trade and inclusive trade strategies.

🤝 Day 2 focused on market activation — export toolkits, consumer insights, product design, platform listing, business matchmaking and networking with trade support actors.

🌐 Participants connected with financing providers, marketing specialists, packaging and quality experts, legal and IP advisers, logistics providers and potential market linkage partners — helping small businesses led by women access the tailored support, networks and services needed to grow through export.

📈 The project supports women’s economic empowerment by strengthening the networks, tools and support systems small businesses led by women need to participate more confidently in regional markets under RCEP.

🇰🇭🌏 Using intellectual property to protect Cambodia’s cultural heritage and support inclusive trade

📅 28–30 April 2026 | Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), in partnership with Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), supported World Intellectual Property Day 2026 with a three-day launch, exhibition and capacity-building workshop.

The program focused on Geographical Indications, Certification Marks, Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions.

🧵 A key milestone was the presentation of the Geographical Indication certificate for Phnom Srok Silk — a distinctive traditional silk product rooted in Cambodia’s cultural heritage and rural weaving communities in Banteay Meanchey Province.

📘 Across the three-day program, participants discussed the draft Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property concerning Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions, explored the use of Geographical Indications and Certification Marks, and strengthened practical knowledge on how intellectual property tools can protect cultural heritage, support micro & small enterprises and promote sustainable development.

🤝 The project demonstrates how intellectual property can help preserve Cambodia’s unique heritage while creating new opportunities for local communities, producers and micro & small enterprises to participate in trade under RCEP.

🇮🇩🌿 Strengthening inclusive MSME participation in Indonesia’s food supply chains

📅 15–16 April 2026 | Bandung, Indonesia — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), delivered a two-day capacity strengthening training under the project “Strengthening MSME Capacity for Food Supply Chain Integration Network in Indonesia.”

👥✨ The training brought together 30 participants from 22 MSMEs in West Java, creating a practical space to strengthen MSME readiness to join structured food supply chains.

🌱🏛️ Through practical sessions and a field visit, participants gained insights into quality standards, supply chain requirements and market access, while also building stronger links with government and market actors.

🤝📈 The project supports more inclusive participation in local food supply chain systems and opens up new opportunities for MSMEs to grow in domestic and regional trade, including under RCEP.

📅 12 May 2026 | Davao City, Philippines — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry – Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB), delivered a workshop on Enhancing Women MSME Export Readiness under RCEP Trade Mechanisms.

👩‍💼📦 The workshop brought together over 100 participants to strengthen understanding of export opportunities, market requirements and practical pathways for small businesses led by women to participate in regional trade under RCEP.

📘 Sessions covered RCEP’s key features and strategic relevance, market opportunities, export requirements and documentation, rules of origin, tariff preferences, financial literacy, access to capital, costing and pricing, product quality, branding, packaging, digital trade and e-commerce.

🤝 Participants also explored gender and inclusive trade strategies, including ways to address gender-specific barriers, leverage support networks and build stronger linkages with export support services and the wider trade ecosystem.

📈 The project supports women’s economic empowerment by helping micro and small women-led and women-owned enterprises in the Philippines overcome barriers to international trade and participate more confidently in regional markets under RCEP.

🇱🇦🌏 Strengthening regional cooperation on traditional knowledge and cultural heritage

📅 6–7 May | Vientiane — Australia and New Zealand’s Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) initiative supported a regional workshop bringing together representatives from ASEAN Member States, Australia and New Zealand to strengthen cooperation on protecting Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions.

🤝 The workshop provided a platform to exchange experiences, discuss international developments, and strengthen regional cooperation on protecting traditional knowledge and cultural heritage.

📘 Over two days, participants shared country experiences, explored policy and legal approaches, and reviewed national assessments from Lao PDR, Viet Nam and the Philippines. Discussions also contributed to the ongoing refinement of the AANZFTA Handbook on Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions, helping ensure it better reflects regional priorities and inclusive development outcomes.

🌿 The workshop highlighted community perspectives, international best practices, experiences from ASEAN Member States, and opportunities to further strengthen collaboration under AANZFTA.

👥 It also reinforced the importance of engaging indigenous communities, small & medium enterprises, women and local knowledge holders in shaping inclusive and effective policy frameworks.

👥 The Association for Women in Small Micro Business Assistance (ASPPUK) and its members convened a two-day workshop to test a training module on gender equality and international trade for MSMEs in Indonesia.

🌏 Supported by Australia through the Trade and Gender Equality Incubator (TGEI), the workshop explored how trade works in practice, how it affects women differently, and how to strengthen advocacy for more inclusive trade policies.

🤝 Grounded in ASPPUK’s network of 44 NGOs across 22 provinces, this initiative has the potential to reach around 2 million women entrepreneurs and support more inclusive economic opportunities.

📘 This is an important step towards developing a practical, locally grounded training module in Bahasa Indonesia—helping ensure that trade benefits are more widely shared.

🌏 Opportunity — Consultant to Produce a TGEI Video

RT4D is seeking a consultant, firm or organisation to produce a short video introducing the Trade and Gender Equality Incubator (TGEI) and its work across the region.

🎥 We’re looking for experience in video production, visual storytelling and post-production, with strong skills in scripting, storyboarding, sound design, voice-over, captioning and communicating development impact.

🌱 The video will showcase TGEI’s significance, early outcomes and contribution to gender equality and inclusion in trade-related policy, technical cooperation and development programming, including pilot projects in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR and Thailand.

📌 The final video will be up to five minutes and include English captions and Auslan interpretation.

🌏 Opportunity — Consultant to Update the “About RT4D” Video

RT4D is seeking a firm or organisation to refresh the existing “About RT4D” video so it continues to clearly and engagingly communicate RT4D’s purpose, work and impact across the region.

We’re interested in firms or organisations with experience in video editing, animation, motion graphics and post-production, as well as strong visual storytelling, subtitle preparation and project management skills. Experience working with government, donor-funded or development-sector clients is desirable.

The updated video will support RT4D’s work across ASEAN Member States under AISP and RISP, helping ensure trade benefits everyone — including MSMEs, women and People with Disability.
