A message from H.E. Ambassador Lee Chul, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN.

The Republic of Korea knows all too well that peace must be both protected and nurtured. Having rebuilt from the tragedies of war, and as a divided country that continues to strive for sustainable and durable peace on the Korean Peninsula, Korea understands that lasting peace is only possible when young people are empowered to become agents of positive change.

This October, the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation will bring together young peacebuilders from across ASEAN and the Republic of Korea in Bali for the ASEAN-IPR Course on Preventing Violent Radicalisation among the Youth — a course that holds special meaning for Korea and for the ASEAN-Korea partnership.

In this message, Ambassador Lee encourages participants to make the most of this opportunity — to learn from outstanding trainers and experts, to take that knowledge beyond the classroom, and to contribute to their communities. Because a peaceful, inclusive, resilient, and diverse world begins today, with the actions of young people.

We look forward to welcoming participants to Bali this October.

Up to 200 students participated offline and online in ASEAN-IPR’s latest University Tour at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, organised by Philippines OPAPRU as ASEAN/ASEAN-IPR under its Chairship theme, “Navigating Our Future Together.”

The iteration of ASEAN-IPR University Tour provided an opportunity for students at ADMU to learn more about ASEAN-IPR’s mandate and work through a presentation on the Institute. The programme also featured panel discussions on peacebuilding experiences in the Philippines and emerging peace and security issues in ASEAN.

Meet the first line-up of trainers for the ASEAN-IPR Course on Preventing Violent Radicalisation among the Youth — coming to Bali, Indonesia this October!

We are honoured to welcome three distinguished experts in security studies, counterterrorism, criminology, and youth resilience:

- Prof. Rohan Gunaratna — Professor of Security Studies, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

- Dr. Bora Park — Director, Hybrid Threat Research Center, Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS), Republic of Korea

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Razwana Begum — Head, Master of Global Security and Strategy Programme, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)

As ASEAN Chair in 2026, the Philippines welcomes a new generation of young leaders who will help shape a more peaceful, inclusive, and resilient ASEAN Community.

Peace does not begin only at negotiating tables or within institutions. It also begins in our communities — in how we respond to differences, the choices we make, and how we engage with one another.

Technology has shrunk our world, and the internet has made your generation the most informed in history. But the same networks that carry knowledge also carry the narratives that divide us. That is why the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) places young people at the heart of our efforts to prevent violent radicalisation and build resilient communities.

This October, we will bring together young people from across ASEAN and the Republic of Korea in Bali for the ASEAN-IPR Course on Preventing Violent Radicalisation among the Youth.

On 3 August, ASEAN-IPR convened the 3rd Focus Group Discussion with the trainers of the ASEAN-IPR Course on Preventing Violent Radicalization Among the Youth for the Course syllabus.

Grounded in the ASEAN-IPR Regional Baseline Study, the trainers shaped how the three-day Course will move from recognising the behavioural indicators of violent radicalisation, to critical thinking and emotional resilience, to healthy digital habits and youth-led peace initiatives. The Course will be held in Bali this October.
