The JAIF Management Team participated in the Project Proposal Workshop for ASEAN Centres and Entities, held as part of the 10th ASEAN Entities Forum on 13 May 2026 at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia.

During the workshop, the Director of the JAIF Management Team, Naoki Minamiguchi, served as a panelist alongside representatives from other project management teams. The session provided an opportunity to share insights on JAIF, including its funding scope, priority areas, and examples of JAIF-funded projects with ASEAN Centres and Entities.

The 48th ASEAN Summit, held in Cebu on 7–8 May 2026, reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to regional unity, resilience, and cooperation amid an increasingly complex global landscape. Chaired by H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, the Summit was convened in accordance with the ASEAN Charter.

The Summit also recognised several initiatives supported by JAIF, including the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA), the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT), the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED), the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), and cooperation on addressing explosive remnants of war (ERW).

To all nurses across the ASEAN–Japan community and beyond, thank you for your dedication and the invaluable care you provide every day.

On this year’s International Nurses Day, we recognise that empowering nurses with safe and supportive environments, along with the ability to practise, influence, and lead, is essential to strengthening health systems and maximising their life-saving impact.

Through JAIF support, nurses and caregivers from Indonesia, the Philippines, and later Viet Nam received Japanese language training to help prepare for work and daily life in Japan under Economic Partnership Agreement Funding Framework. Funded by approximately USD 14.3 million from 2009, followed by an additional contribution in 2012 to expand participation to Viet Nam as part of ASEAN–Japan cooperation in healthcare and people to people exchange.

Home looks different on every journey: a long bus ride across an island, lanterns drifting along a river, or a house filled with food and familiar faces.

Across Japan and Southeast Asia, these moments often become the reason people travel. Different traditions, different seasons, but the same pull to return, to places that feel like home.

If you could plan your next trip around one of these traditions, where would you go?

People are working on the same challenges. Not everything is connected yet.

Climate change, biodiversity loss, and carbon neutrality require stronger links between science, policy, and implementation in ASEAN.

With support from JAIF and in collaboration with the ASEAN University Network, the ASEAN-Japan Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Coordinators initiative focuses on developing a new generation of coordinators to bridge these gaps.

Stronger coordination turns knowledge into action. It strengthens systems and enables regional impact.

Response does not begin when disaster strikes. It depends on what is already in place.

In ASEAN, logistics, trained teams, and coordination systems are strengthened through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (), with support from JAIF. These are the elements that enable faster and more organised response.

The weather feels more unpredictable. Heavy rain and extreme heat are becoming more frequent. Patterns are shifting, coastlines are under pressure and temperatures are rising, shaping how people live and plan ahead.

In response, JAIF supports the ASEAN Climate Change Strategic Action Plan (ACCSAP) 2025-2030, helping turn regional commitments into coordinated action.

Through Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), the work strengthens risk assessment, builds technical capacity and aligns Member States on adaptation and mitigation priorities, guided by the ASEAN State of Climate Change Report and the ASEAN Climate Vision 2050.
