The second webinar in the EU–Brunei Higher Education Webinar Series was successfully held on 27 August 2025 via Zoom, organised in partnership between the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.
The event recorded over 300 live views from all sessions, including by government officials, educators, academic staff, students and private sector representatives, reflecting strong interest in fostering dialogue on higher education and research opportunities.
The programme opened with remarks by Rosimah Sumaimah (Senior Special Duties Officer / Acting Director, Department of Scholarship Management, Ministry of Education), a keynote speech by Stéphane Mechati (Deputy Head of Mission, EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam) and an opening speech by Dr. Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education.
Session 1 highlighted the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme, exploring opportunities for students and universities alike to engage in short-term exchanges and academic partnerships with institutions in the EU.
In the afternoon, participants joined concurrent sessions. Session 2A focused on the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarship Programme, while Session 2B introduced the Horizon Europe Programme for Research and Innovation. Both sessions provided comprehensive information, personal experiences, and interactive Q&A discussions.
The webinar reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, knowledge exchange and global partnerships in advancing Brunei’s education sector and deepening EU–Brunei relations.
