Before it was Memorial Day, it was Decoration Day — born on May 1, 1865 in Charleston, SC, when freed Black families reclaimed a mass grave of Union soldiers and honored them with flowers, prayers, and procession. Their devotion to remembrance shaped a national tradition.

Thank you to all who serve. 🇺🇸

The fight for justice doesn’t pause — not for courts, not for setbacks, not for fear.

The U.S. Supreme Court may have reversed the ruling on Mississippi’s legislative maps, but we stay rooted, organized, and unshakeable.

Keep voting, keep fighting for justice and keep showing up.
Our people are worth it.

Happy Birthday to A’Dorian Murray‑Thomas — a history‑maker, a barrier‑breaker, and a blueprint for what fearless women’s leadership looks like.

From the CEO of SHE Wins! Inc. to the Newark Public School Board to the Essex County Board of Commissioners to the Chair of the New Jersey Democratic Women’s Caucus, you’ve shown us what it means to lead with heart, courage, and community.

May this next chapter be your boldest, brightest, and most joy‑filled yet.
Keep shining, Chair Murray‑Thomas —
Essex County and New Jersey are better because of you. 💛✨

The Supreme Court issued a major ruling that significantly narrows Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, striking down Louisiana’s second majority‑Black congressional district and reshaping how racial discrimination in redistricting can be challenged.

Why this is such a big deal?
This ruling weakens one of the last remaining enforcement mechanisms of the Voting Rights Act after the Court’s 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision eliminated federal preclearance. Section 2 has been the primary tool for challenging discriminatory maps nationwide. By narrowing it, the Court has made it far harder for minority voters to contest maps that dilute their political power.

The ruling allows states to systematically dilute minority voting power without legal consequence.

Civil‑rights leaders echoed this alarm. The NAACP called the ruling a “devastating blow” to the Voting Rights Act, and advocates described it as a betrayal of the legacy of the civil‑rights movement.

What happens next?
The Democrats and other voting‑rights groups are already mobilizing. Organizations across the South are preparing new legal strategies, pushing for state‑level voting‑rights protections, and urging Congress to pass federal legislation to restore the VRA’s full strength.

Now more than ever, in every state, in every election, Democrats Must Vote!
