🇭🇷 Anti-Fascist Struggle Day in Croatia

Every year on 22 June, Croatia observes Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, a national public holiday commemorating the fight against fascism.

The Austrian Ambassador participated in this year's official commemoration. On 22 June 1941, the Sisak Partisan Detachment, recognised as the first antifascist combat unit in this part of Europe, was established.

By commemorating the struggle for freedom we fight totalitarianism & foster democracy.🤝

🇭🇷 Tag des antifaschistischen Kampfes in Kroatien

Am 22. Juni begeht Kroatien den Tag des antifaschistischen Kampfes. Der gesetzliche Feiertag erinnert an den Widerstand gegen den Faschismus.

Die österreichische Botschafterin nahm an der diesjährigen offiziellen Gedenkfeier teil. Am 22. Juni 1941 wurde bei Sisak die erste antifaschistische Kampfeinheit in diesem Teil Europas gegründet.

Das Gedenken an den Kampf für die Freiheit steht für unser gemeinsames Bekenntnis, dem Totalitarismus entgegenzutreten und die Demokratie zu stärken. 🤝

📅 June has been a busy and inspiring month, full of meaningful meetings and engaging discussions—with more still to come!

🤝 Last week, the Ambassador had the pleasure of supporting the conference "Building Bridges – Modernizing Justice Systems", co-organized by the Austrian and Croatian Chambers of Notaries within the EU project Justice Without Litigation.

🇪🇺 Over two days, experts from 29 institutions across 22 EU Member States exchanged best practices on developing non-contentious procedures to help reduce the burden on justice systems while strengthening procedural standards and the rule of law.

⚖️ These discussions are vital for the future of European justice systems and bring tangible benefits to citizens and businesses across the EU.

📅 Der Juni war bisher ein ereignisreicher und inspirierender Monat – geprägt von zahlreichen wichtigen Begegnungen und spannenden Gesprächen. Und es kommt noch mehr!

🤝 Vergangene Woche hatte die Botschafterin die Freude, die Konferenz **„Building Bridges – Modernizing Justice Systems“** zu unterstützen, die von der Österreichischen und der Kroatischen Notariatskammer im Rahmen des EU-Projekts **„Justice Without Litigation“** gemeinsam organisiert wurde.

🇪🇺 An zwei Tagen tauschten Expertinnen und Experten aus **29 Institutionen in 22 EU-Mitgliedstaaten** bewährte Verfahren zur Einführung außerstreitiger Verfahren aus. Ziel ist es, die Justizsysteme zu entlasten und gleichzeitig Verfahrensstandards sowie die Rechtsstaatlichkeit zu stärken.

⚖️ Diese Gespräche sind von großer Bedeutung für die Zukunft der europäischen Justiz und bringen konkrete Vorteile für Bürgerinnen und Bürger sowie Unternehmen in der gesamten Europäischen Union.

Ambassador Yvonne Tončić-Sorinj, paid her inaugural visit to Damir Habijan, Minister of Ministarstvo pravosuđa, uprave i digitalne transformacije of the Republic of Croatia.

The meeting focused on cooperation in the field of justice, digital transformation, and Croatia’s OECD accession process. Both sides reaffirmed their excellent bilateral relations and their commitment to continued cooperation within European projects.

Botschafterin Yvonne Tončić-Sorinj, absolvierte ihren Antrittsbesuch bei Damir Habijan, Minister für Justiz, Verwaltung und digitale Transformation der Republik Kroatien.

Im Mittelpunkt des Gesprächs standen die Zusammenarbeit im Justizbereich, die Digitalisierung der Verwaltung sowie Kroatiens OECD-Beitritt. Beide Seiten bekräftigten die ausgezeichnete bilaterale Zusammenarbeit und den gemeinsamen Austausch im Rahmen europäischer Projekte.

🇦🇹🤝🇭🇷 A special recognition for the Governor of the Croatian National Bank: Ambassador Yvonne Tončić-Sorinj presented Boris Vujčić in Zagreb with the Grand Gold Decoration of Honour with Star for Services to the Republic of Austria.

This distinction honours his outstanding contribution to Croatia’s economic stability, the country’s accession to the European Union, the introduction of the euro, and the strengthening of Austrian-Croatian relations.

The ceremony was attended by numerous representatives from politics, business, diplomacy and public institutions.

🇦🇹🤝🇭🇷 Eine besondere Auszeichnung für den Gouverneur der kroatischen Nationalbank: Botschafterin Yvonne Tončić-Sorinj überreichte Boris Vujčić in Zagreb das Große Goldene Verdienstkreuz mit Stern der Republik Österreich.

Mit dieser Ehrung würdigt die Republik Österreich seine Verdienste um die wirtschaftliche Stabilität Kroatiens, den EU-Beitritt des Landes, die Einführung des Euro sowie die Stärkung der österreichisch-kroatischen Beziehungen.

An der feierlichen Verleihung nahmen zahlreiche Vertreterinnen und Vertreter aus Politik, Wirtschaft, Diplomatie und Institutionen teil.

🇦🇹🇭🇷 On 11 May 2026, the official opening of the Austrian Honorary Consulate in P**a took place at the invitation of the Austrian Embassy Zagreb.

Ambassador Yvonne Tončić-Sorinj welcomed the Vice Prefect of Istria, Dr Gordana Antić, the Deputy Mayor of P**a, Dr Vito Paoletić, as well as numerous representatives from public administration, business, academia and culture, together with members of the Austrian community in Istria.

The new Honorary Consulate for the County of Istria, headed by Luka Orešković, further strengthens the close Austrian-Croatian relations and underlines the special importance of Istria as an important partner region for Austria in Croatia.

Our colleagues from the Cultural Forum warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition dedicated to Alois Mock.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into the life and work of Alois Mock, one of Austria’s most important statesmen of the 20th century. It highlights his key role in Austria’s accession to the European Union, his commitment to democracy and human rights, and his vision of a united Europe.

Visitors will also discover historic moments such as the symbolic cutting of the Iron Curtain at the Hungarian border in 1989 – a landmark event marking the beginning of a new era in Europe.

Besondere historische Momente – darunter das symbolische Durchschneiden des Eisernen Vorhangs 1989 an der ungarischen Grenze – machen die Ausstellung zu einer eindrucksvollen Zeitreise durch die europäische Geschichte.
