Today is World Pangolin Day — a moment to celebrate one of nature’s most extraordinary animals and to stand up for their survival.

Pangolins are the world’s most trafficked mammal and all eight species are now threatened. In the last decade, over 1,000,000 pangolins were taken from the wild.

How you can help:
• Don’t buy wildlife products.
• Support charities and projects working on anti-trafficking, rescue and habitat protection.
• Share this post to raise awareness.

Celebrate World Pangolin Day by speaking up for these gentle, scaly creatures — together we can help protect them for future generations.

Happy Birthday George Adamson, Baba ya Simba

Today in 1906 was born one of the founders of modern conservation and a hero to many. Immortalised by his wife’s book Born Free, George Adamason lived a life in the wilds of Kenya, quietly but firmly protecting a corner of Kenya where he raised and released into the wild lions who were orphaned and from zoos all around the world. George’s patience, courage and deep respect for African wildlife changed the lives of animals and people alike.

His work with the famous Elsa and other lions such as Christian who had been bought at Harrods and raised in London’s Kings Road meant these animals who should have been wild were allowed to be wild. George’s work pioneered the rehabilitation of lions and ensured lasting protection for wild places, not least his beloved Kora.
George’s legacy can be honoured by protecting habitat, supporting ethical conservation, and teaching the next generation to cherish the wild.

🌱✨ Exciting News for Wildlife Lovers! ✨🌱

We’re thrilled to announce that Indonesia has officially banned the riding of elephants! 🐘❤️ This landmark decision is a huge step towards protecting these majestic creatures and ensuring their well-being in their natural habitats.

By prioritizing ethical wildlife practices, we can help preserve the dignity and rights of elephants, who have long been exploited for tourism. 🌍 Let’s continue to advocate for animal rights and celebrate this positive change together!

Remembering Craig: The Magnificent Super Tusker

Today, we mourn the loss of Craig, a majestic 54-year-old super tusker elephant who left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of many. Known for his extraordinary size and iconic tusks, Craig was not just a symbol of strength but also a testament to the beauty of wildlife.

Craig roamed the Kenyan landscapes with grace, reminding us of the urgent need to protect these magnificent creatures and their habitats. As we say goodbye, let’s honor his legacy by committing to conservation efforts that safeguard the future of elephants and all wildlife.

Thank you, Craig, for inspiring us to protect the precious wildlife of our planet. 🐘💚

Craig was a legendary elephant in the Amboseli region. Friendly, patient and approachable he seemed to have an understanding of his status and was an awesome example of the magnificence of elephants. I suspect he will be having a conversation in elephant heaven with at least 2 other legends of conservation who have recently left us. Their legacies will be an inspiration for future generations.

Craig died this morning. Beloved by many people but particularly by the local community with whom he shared his range, Craig was born in January 1972 to Cassandra of the CB family. We were never certain but we suspected that he had a twin sister, Cerise, who is the matriarch of the CB family today. Craig had just turned 54 years old. He led a long life and no doubt fathered many calves. Thanks to his many protectors he died peacefully of natural causes. Craig represented all that is wondrous about the Amboseli elephants.

This week, we mourn the loss of Daniel Ole Sambu of the Big Life Foundation, a towering legend of conservation in Africa. His work made a lasting impact on the way we view wildlife conservation and the communities we strive to protect.

Daniel traveled to Hong Kong for our Elephant Weeks for many years, bringing invaluable insights into life on the front lines of protecting wildlife. He shared his experiences with us, deepening our understanding of the illegal wildlife trade and fostering a growing enthusiasm among youth to protect the environment we share with wildlife.

His contributions to conservation and his dedication to educating others will be sorely missed by all who knew him and by the many thousands whose lives he touched. The Elephant Foundation extends our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues, and we wish them strength as they navigate this difficult time. We hope that Daniel’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations in the fight for wildlife conservation.

Today is a sad day for elephants as The Elephant Foundation, along with the rest of the conservation world, mourns the passing of one of the great legends of conservation, Dr Ian Douglas Hamilton. Reading the tributes pouring in from those who are themselves leaders of elephant conservation, it is plain we have lost another great person, one who made us all stop and think and one who really did make a difference. With his passing, a generational chapter closes, though the baton is handed on to his already accomplished children and grandchildren to continue making a difference that is so important. Our condolences go to the Douglas Hamilton family and colleagues at this difficult time.
