Beyond Studying: Wellness & Fragrance 🌿

More than just a study space, the Library continues to grow as a vibrant hub for creativity, wellness, and personal enrichment. 🎨✨

We recently teamed up 🀝 with DSTO to host a DIY Perfume Cream Workshop. 🧴

Participants explored the art and language of perfume making, created their own signature scents, and experienced the soothing, stress-relieving power of aromatherapy. πŸŒΈπŸ’§

Missed it? Stay tuned for more personal enrichment events at the Library! πŸ“šπŸ’›

HKUST Impact Makers

Last year, 16 Library colleagues volunteered their time to give back to the community ❀️.

From buddy reading πŸ“š to beach clean-ups πŸ–οΈ and sorting clothes for recycling ♻️, our team showed that our care goes way beyond the bookshelves. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made a real impact!

On 4 May, we were honoured with the Outstanding Volunteer Engagement Award πŸ† at the HKUST Impact Makers Appreciation Ceremony 2026 - recognising the highest proportion of staff participation across the University.

This achievement belongs to every colleague who gave their time and care. Let’s keep the momentum going ✨

Our "Taste of Digital Scholarship" talk with Professor Chung was a huge hit! πŸ‘

We were excited to see so much interest from students and staff.

Professor Chung shared his recent project, which uses fine-tuned vision–language models to enable OCR for low-resource historical texts. πŸ€–πŸ“œ The resulting model achieves high accuracy on real-world historical Manchu sources, opening up new possibilities for applying AI to humanities research! πŸ’‘

Stay tuned! The Library is planning an upcoming talk this Fall to showcase another project from our Digital Humanities Initiative.

Get ready for more tastes of digital scholarship! πŸ—“οΈ

Student Helper Appreciation Party

A huge thank you to all our amazing student helpers! πŸ™Œ On March 31, we celebrated their invaluable contributions and dedication at our Helper Appreciation Party. πŸŽ‰

A special congratulations to our five Outstanding Student Helper Award winners:

πŸ† BINGWA Terry Namarome (MECH): Since joining in October, Terry's dedication and passion have shone through. She was instrumental in the β€œTravelling in Maps” exhibition, using her aerospace engineering background and excellent handiwork to create innovative display solutions, especially for model aeroplanes.

πŸ† LAW Yuan (CPEG): Working in Resource Management since January 2025, Yuan has been a model of reliability and independence. She excels at creating workflow charts and is quick to identify and report issues, demonstrating outstanding performance.

πŸ† NG F*k Yee (CHEM): With University Archives & Special Collections since last summer, F*k Yee has shown incredible growth and commitment. Her artistic skills in photography and framing have beautifully enhanced library projects and exhibitions, alongside her precise work in data entry and archival checking.
