【Devil’s Work Ball
No bigger than a palm, yet this ivory ball holds a universe of wonder! Carved from a single piece of ivory by Cantonese craftsmen of the Qing Dynasty, its outer surface features dragons weaving through clouds, while its inner layers rotate flexibly with intricacy. Such remarkable craftsmanship earned it the name “devil’s work ball”.
The making of a masterpiece requires the perfect alignment of time, place, and skill. Discover the extraordinary dedication behind these legendary works at the “Art Personalised” exhibition!

【Finding Ah You 尋找亞有】
In the mid-19th century, hardworking Tanka boatwomen were among the very few Chinese women along the Pearl River who had contact with foreign traders. Known as "Ah You", this Macao 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯 girl became the subject of a Chinese export painter’s work.
Now, swipe left: can you spot "Ah You" in the harbour of Macao? As it turns out, "Ah You" was not a single person, but the shared identity of Tanka boatwomen, whose quiet strength lives on in paintings.
Come and visit “Ah You” in person at “Proudly from Canton: The Muwen Tang Collection of Cantonese and Export Art”.

【Away from the Mundane World 忘卻人間】
Legend has it that the Daoist sage Liezi could ride the wind, drifting freely between heaven and earth. Occupying only a small corner of the painting, he stands beneath a gnarled pine overlooking a sea of clouds. With fluttering sleeves, he appears like an immortal taking to the sky, transcending the mortal realm.
The second phase of the “Mini-figures in Paintings” exhibition is now open, featuring a new selection of works. We invite you to step into the imagined worlds of the literati, leave behind worldly concerns and lose themselves in the timeless landscapes of Chinese painting.
The second phase of the exhibition runs from 2026.06.19 onwards.

【Imaginative Stardust
From their brief formation to their eventual disappearance, soap bubbles evoke a fleeting image of impermanence. But for the artist, they carry the imagination of stardust. Inspired by the wells commonly seen in Venice and the sky wells of Hong Kong’s buildings, artist Kingsley Ng created the installation 𝘚𝘬𝘺 𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭, in which a hovering point of light illuminates the soap bubbles below. Through optical effects, another point of light emerges. Between the real and the illusionary, the two lights appear to pursue one another, unfolding boundless imagination.
The exhibition “Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice”, currently on view in Venice, invites visitors to journey into this imagined stardust and look beyond the ordinary moments of life.
“Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice”
Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council
The exhibition runs until 2026.11.22 at Campo della Tana, Castello 2126, 30122, Venice, Italy. For further details, please visit https://hk.art.museum/en/web/ma/exhibitions-and-events/fermata-hk-in-venice.html/ / https://2026.vbexhibitions.hk/en/.
