Drones are common - but what about a drone big enough to ride in? Or a flying car that lifts off and flies without a pilot? Once sci-fi, this is moving closer to daily life.

The technology is eVTOL: electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Fully electric, they hover like helicopters and fly forward like planes. China sees the low-altitude economy - airspace below 1,000 metres - as a strategic priority alongside AI and quantum technology.

How will flying taxis change our lives? How soon for ordinary consumers? What challenges remain?
