New Zealand Consulate General Hong Kong & Macao 新西蘭駐香港及澳門總領事館 Kia ora! Welcome to the official page of the New Zealand Consulate-General in Hong Kong

New Zealand has had resident representation in Hong Kong since 1960. The Consulate-General and other New Zealand agencies represent the New Zealand government and carry out the business in Hong Kong SAR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Immigration New Zealand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Investment New Zealand, New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs Service. We are working t

o promote New Zealand's economic and cultural links with Hong Kong, which is New Zealand's 8th largest market for merchandise trade as well as an important partner in education, tourism, aviation and other service sectors. Hong Kong also acts as an important gateway for our exports of goods and services into mainland China and is one of our largest sources of foreign direct investment. As two of the world’s most open economies, Hong Kong and New Zealand work together closely in the World Trade Organisation and APEC. The New Zealand-Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership – which entered into force in 2011 – was the first free trade agreement to be established between Hong Kong and a foreign country.

One of the important themes of Matariki (the Māori new year) is strengthening relationships amongst whānau (family) and wider communities.

Consul-General Peter Lund was therefore pleased to host a ‘Matariki Long Lunch’ for valued contacts of the Consulate-General over a three course meal showcasing New Zealand ingredients.

A karanga (traditional Māori welcome call) and karakia were part of the proceedings and the Consul-General was delighted to welcome Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, as well as Dr Jonathan Austin, New Zealand Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China as special guests.

A tasty, healthy, portable snack – Rockit apples have seen continuous and strong growth in the Hong Kong market. The main growing region for Rockit apples is the Hawke's Bay on the east coast of the North Island - the ideal climate for apple orchards.

The Kiwi Ball was held at the Regala Sky City Hotel on Saturday. New Zealanders and friends of Aotearoa got together to celebrate all that’s wonderful about our country - and enjoyed an extensive buffet, NZ wines and beers, Kapa Haka performance by Te Hokioi ki Whanga Kakara, live band, vibrant art display by contemporary artist Alex Leung and more!

The FLIGHT NZ 2026 theme was inspired by New Zealand’s aviation history, including the remarkable achievements of Kiwis, such as Richard Pearse and Jean Batten. As an island nation, aviation has been a part of our narrative, from the early 19th century when balloon flights began, to launching rockets into space. For a country where our national icon is a flightless bird, Kiwis have been taking off in wonderful ways!
