New Zealand Consulate General Hong Kong & Macao Kia ora! Welcome to the official page of the New Zealand Consulate-General in Hong Kong

New Zealand has had resident representation in Hong Kong since 1960. The Consulate-General and other New Zealand agencies represent the New Zealand government and carry out the business in Hong Kong SAR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Immigration New Zealand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Investment New Zealand, New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs Service. We are working to promote New Zealand's economic and cultural links with Hong Kong, which is New Zealand's 8th largest market for merchandise trade as well as an important partner in education, tourism, aviation and other service sectors. Hong Kong also acts as an important gateway for our exports of goods and services into mainland China and is one of our largest sources of foreign direct investment. As two of the world’s most open economies, Hong Kong and New Zealand work together closely in the World Trade Organisation and APEC. The New Zealand-Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership – which entered into force in 2011 – was the first free trade agreement to be established between Hong Kong and a foreign country.

Cathay Pacific will increase its Christchurch–Hong Kong service to five flights a week during the peak New Zealand summer months, strengthening South Island travel options and global connectivity.

The seasonal route will operate three times weekly from November 2026 to March 2027, increasing to five flights from December to February.

Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson said the expansion reflects strong South Island demand and will boost opportunities for exporters, with added belly‑freight capacity supporting premium produce such as cherries, seafood and chilled meat.

The seasonal service will operate three times a week between 1 November 2026 and 27 March 2027, increasing to five weekly flights from December through February to meet strong seasonal demand.

If you were in New Zealand fifteen years ago you may recall the romantic comedy movie ‘My Wedding and Other Secrets.’

Michelle Ang, the first Asian New Zealander to lead a feature film, starred in this film in 2011 and has gone on to have an extensive acting, producing and directing career. Michelle also founded ‘A Grain of Rice Productions’ in 2019 to develop and produce film and television stories from Asian diaspora perspectives. She also sits on the board of the Pan Asian Screen Collective, which represents Pan-Asian screen practitioners in New Zealand, including writers, directors, actors and producers, advocating for them at a policy level and creating pathways for professional development.

Consul-General Peter Lund was delighted to host informal drinks at the New Zealand residence bringing Michelle together with contacts in the film and creative industries.
