In March 2026, Mother's Choice hosted its second Global Family Reunion in London, bringing together 38 members of our extended family: adoptive families, adoptees, former staff, and volunteers from around the world 💚🌏

Mary, an adoptive parent who volunteered with us in the '90s, shared this:

“My most memorable moment at Mother’s Choice is the love I felt at the time and again when we revisited this year. The love for these babies and children is extraordinary and permeates every aspect of the organisation. The London reunion was amazing because we made lots of new friends and loved hearing the stories of everyone we met there. The connection to Mother’s Choice is so important for our three adopted daughters and our recent visit to Hong Kong has changed all their lives.”

Now, we're bringing the reunion to our family in the United States. We'd love to see you there!

今個父親節，感謝每一位用愛為孩子築起橋樑的「爸爸」。

Sam與Carol在「母親的抉擇」幼兒之家擔任義工時，看見許多孩子正在等待一個充滿關愛的家庭，於是決定參與我們的「橋樑計劃」，成為寄養家長。九年過去，他們對照顧第一個幼兒的經歷仍然歷歷在目。「他的頭是扁的……原來他一直睡在醫院的床上，沒有人抱他。」Sam分享道。對孩子而言，最需要的，只是一雙手將他抱起。

This Father’s Day, we give thanks to every father who builds bridges of love for children.

Sam and Carol began volunteering at Mother’s Choice’s Child Care Home, where they saw many children waiting for a loving family. This inspired them to join our Project Bridge and become foster parents. Nine years on, they still vividly remember their first experience of caring for a young child. “His head was flattened… we later learned he had been lying in a hospital bed all along, without anyone holding him,” Sam shared. For children, what they need most is simply a pair of arms to lift them up.

We're deeply grateful to The Voice's interview, and Sam, Carol and every foster parent. Thank you for helping more children find a loving home.

在你印象中，抱你「飛高高」的人是你的爸爸嗎？眼前高大，說話沉穩的Sam也曾經抱小孩子「飛」，但他是一位「寄養爸爸」。「我第一次去（幼兒之家），啲小朋友見到我係會好似見到怪獸咁，佢哋好驚，因為照顧佢哋嘅都係姐姐（女性）......」眼前高大、說話沉穩的Sam和妻子Carol從2015年開始，每星期到幼兒之家做義工，和幼兒玩耍、Sam更會抱他們四處「飛」。過程中他們發現有很多孩子留在家舍多時，仍未得到領養，便決定嘗試成為寄養家長。經驗變得豐富後，孩子們喜歡上Sam，甚至一見到他便會興奮得尖叫。

▍ Sam：「小朋友最需要嘅，原來只係一對手抱起佢」

Sam和Carol參與「母親的抉擇」的「橋樑計劃」，至今他們已經照顧過10名兒童，由六個月大的嬰兒，到五歲的小朋友。雖然他們已經成為寄養家長9年，但照顧第一個幼兒的經歷仍然歷歷在目，「佢個頭係扁嘅......原來佢一直喺醫院，瞓喺床上，冇人抱佢」。Sam分享，起初他們都擔心做寄養家長需要做訓練、學換片，「但係原來小朋友最需要嘅，只不過係一對手，抱起佢」。

寄養家長會照顧需要短暫寄養的兒童，他們有些是正在等待領養手續完成的兒童，有些是因家庭問題而需要暫時離開原有家庭。Sam和Carol雖然沒有育兒經驗，但經過機構培訓，他們發現寄養家長在照顧小朋友上，其實和普通家長一樣。他們也曾遇到育兒難題，但在計劃下，他們可以從機構得到支援。

▍ 為孩子找到領養家庭感動

比起成為領養家庭，寄養家長能夠幫助更多有需要兒童，亦能令兒童等待領養的時間縮短。對Sam和Carol來說，最大的動力莫過於看到孩子健康成長，並找到領養家庭。不過寄養家長卻又要面對與孩子分離的一刻。Sam和Carol分享，他們會反覆向孩子說領養主題的故事書，他們甚至會把「新爸媽」的照片貼在角色上，又會用積木向孩子解釋領養的事。

「有好幾次都係小朋友第一次見領養家長，已經會叫佢哋『爹哋、媽咪』，我哋應該好成功吧。」Sam笑言，他每次看到孩子找到領養家庭，他的內心雖然會有點妒忌，彷彿「看到愛人結婚」一般，但同時會為孩子感到高興和感動。

孩子被領養後，他們被規定在半年內不能與孩子見面。Carol憶述做寄養家長初時，她曾因與孩子分離而傷心得哭了很久，她甚至想過不再做寄養家長。不過，有次她偶然在街上碰見她曾照顧的孩子和他的領養家庭，「我以為我會衝埋去問佢記唔記得我，但我冇咁做，我見到佢踩住單車，佢父母喺側邊，一個好幸福嘅畫面。呢個就係我做寄養家長最想見到嘅畫面。」

謝謝Smart Parents 親子王專訪寄養家長鍾先生，分享他一家的寄養旅程，讓更多人看見寄養服務為孩子及家庭所帶來的力量。

數年前，鍾先生的四歲女兒確診「腦海綿狀血管瘤」，經歷多次開腦手術。雖然日子艱難，一家人仍然齊心渡過難關。同時，因見證女兒與眾多病童的經歷，鍾先生與太太決心幫助更多有需要的孩子，在「母親的抉擇」支援下成為寄養家庭。

Thank you to Smart Parents for featuring our foster parent Mr Chung and sharing his family’s fostering journey, helping more people see the impact that foster care can bring to children and families.

A few years earlier, Mr Chung’s four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a cerebral cavernous malformation and underwent multiple brain surgeries. It was a painful and uncertain time for the family, but they faced it together with strength and unity. During those long hospital days, witnessing both his daughter’s journey and the experiences of other children in hospital, Mr Chung and his wife felt a deeper calling to extend care beyond their own family. With the support of Mother’s Choice, they became a foster family.

We're deeply grateful to Mr Chung and to every selfless foster parent. Wishing you a Happy Father’s Day.

Our Child Care Home is one of only three homes in Hong Kong caring for children under the age of three, making it a vital lifeline for our city's youngest and most vulnerable.

For babies and toddlers who cannot safely be with their families, our home offers round the clock care during those first years of life. Every cuddle, every feeding, every experience matters, because these are the moments that shape a child's sense of safety in the world.

AI is transforming the way many NGOs work. At Mother’s Choice, we're embracing innovation and using technology to give hope.

On 29 May, we joined the ‘AI to Day-to-Day NGOs Workshop’ hosted by Google Hong Kong. The integration of AI into the social services sector has the potential to take our work to the next level and create even greater positive impact in the community.

Caring for a child takes time, patience and presence.

That's why, at our Child Care Home, we follow a small group model that puts each child's individual needs at the centre of their care. With the help of our incredible volunteers working alongside our staff, we maintain a 1:3 adult to child ratio, going beyond the Government's standard of 1:8.

To every volunteer who shows up for our children, thank you. You are part of what makes this home feel like home. 💛
