The Nordic Library at Athens The Nordic Library is a research library with a focus on ancient archaeology and history, centrally located in the Makrygianni area at Athens.

The Nordic Library is a joint venture by the four archaeological institutes of Sweden (working in Greece since 1948), Finland (1984), Norway (1989), and Denmark (1992). The Library mainly caters towards Nordic scholars and students but also welcomes both Greek and foreign scholars and students who are interested in using its collections. It is open Monday-Friday 9:00-19:00. The Library's collectio

ns include mainly material in the field of Greek and Mediterranean archaeology, ancient history, ancient philology, religion, philosophy, art and literature.

Kära vänner!

Svenska institutet i Athen och Nordic Academy har nöjet att bjuda in till en författarkväll på svenska med ARNE DAHL, en av Sveriges mest lästa författare.

Arne Dahl, eller Jan Arnald som han egentligen heter, har genom åren haft flera bokpresentationer i Athen. Den här gången får vi möjlighet att möta honom i en lite mer privat och avslappnad miljö, höra honom berätta om sitt författarskap, sina böcker och lära känna personen bakom pseudonymen.

The Nordic Library is delighted to welcome Karl Westergaard for his 11-week internship!

Karl has a Master’s degree in Intellectual History and recently finished a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Languages from the University of Oslo. His research focus rests predominately on political and economic history in ancient Greece, having focused in his master's thesis on the political discourse regarding Athenian citizenship and πολιτεία in the Classical period.

Karl is already a familiar figure at the library, having done his Erasmus-exchange in Athens during autumn 2024, and is thus already familiar with Athens, both ancient and modern. We are happy to welcome him back.

The new accessions for July can now be found on the first floor, along with the latest periodicals.

This month's selection includes books on gender, philosophy and byzantinology. Several of the volumes are written by or feature contributions from Nordic scholars.

The library is still open during August with reduced opening hours (9-17).
