Last month, we took a virtual literary journey through Greece as part of .

One of our book recommendations was ‘Corelli's Mandolin’ by Louis de Bernières, a moving story of love, resilience and community set on the island of during the Second World War.

With its memorable characters and vivid descriptions of island life, the novel introduced generations of readers to one of Greece's most beautiful destinations.

Today, people across celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, one of the country's most important religious and cultural celebrations.

From island towns to mountain villages and city neighbourhoods, communities come together to celebrate through faith, tradition, music, food and fellowship.

We wish everyone in Greece, and especially those celebrating their name day, a joyful and peaceful 15 August.

One of our book recommendations was ‘Mani: Travels in the Southern Peloponnese’ by Patrick Leigh Fermor, in which he offers a vivid exploration of a region known for its dramatic landscapes, rich history and distinctive traditions.

Patrick Leigh Fermor spent much of his life in 🇬🇷 and remains one of the most celebrated 🇬🇧 writers to have written about the country.

📚 Last week we completed our literary journey.

Our first book recommendation was "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell who reminisces his childhood on in the 1930s.

Few writers have captured the beauty, wildlife and atmosphere of Greece with such warmth and affection.
