The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), with support from the Catholic Relief Services, is conducting a ten day training on Incident Management System (IMS), Artificial Intelligence forecasting, and Information & Communication Technology (ICT).

This training marks a major step in modernizing disaster risk governance, equipping the staff with advanced tools to anticipate, coordinate, and respond effectively to emergencies. By integrating AI-driven forecasting and ICT solutions into EOC and IMS workflows, NDMA is boosting its capacity to safeguard communities against floods, fires, windstorms, and other hazards.

Such investments in knowledge and technology are vital for building a resilient society, where preparedness and innovation drive collective safety and sustainable development.

Strengthening Community Resilience in Migration Management

The National Disaster Management Agency, in partnership with the Gambia Immigration Department and the Red Cross, with support from CRS through the Emergency Aid and Risk Reduction for Migrants in The Gambia Project (EARM), has rolled out sensitization campaigns across coastal & riverine communities, including Katong, Sanyang, Batokunku, Tanji, Sami, Buniadou, and Bakindik Manding.
This initiative promotes safe & dignified migrant management, while boosting community preparedness and resilience.
NDMA thanks all partners and calls for continued commitment to protecting dignity in migration.

As part of H.E. the Vice President’s nationwide tour, the delegation engaged directly with communities to better understand the realities of disaster risk and resilience. With the rainy season approaching, special attention was given to flood-prone areas, ensuring that preparedness measures are in place to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
The visits to Giroba K***a, Samba Tacko, Sami Suruwa K***a, Panchang Wharftown, and Kanfenda highlighted both the progress made and the urgent needs that remain. From water retention ponds and culverts to resilient housing and evacuation sites, each stop underscored the importance of engineering solutions and community-driven action in reducing risk. By working hand-in-hand with local communities and institutions, NDMA and partners reaffirm their commitment to protecting the most vulnerable from seasonal hazards.
More than a monitoring exercise, the tour is a call to action reminding us that preparedness, resilience, and unity are essential in the face of disasters. Together, we strengthen the foundations of a safer and more resilient Gambia.

Mr. Lamin Saidy, Regional Disaster Coordinator for the North Bank Region, who has successfully graduated with a Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy and Mr. Mustapha Darboe, serving at the KMC Regional Disaster Coordination Office, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the university of The Gambia during its 18th Convocation Ceremony. These accomplishments reflect not only their personal commitment to growth but also strengthens the capacity of NDMA and inspires others to strive for continuous learning and service. NDMA, in partnership with Saama Kairo Federation, successfully conducted a five-day community sensitization in the West Coast Region, targeting Bafuloto, Brikama Jida, Basori, Pirang, and Kafuta. The initiative brought together local leaders, women, youth, and persons with disabilities to strengthen knowledge on disaster risk reduction and resilience. Discussions highlighted preparedness and mitigation against floods, fires, and windstorms, while also addressing irregular migration, with reference to the December 31st Jinack incident. This collaborative effort has enhanced community awareness and readiness to face future challenges. NDMA extends heartfelt appreciation to the Saama Kairo Federation for their invaluable support in this partnership.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Gambia Immigration Department have received a significant donation of Non-Food Items (NFIs) from Catholic Relief Services (CRS), The Gambia. The support forms part of CRS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness, enhance response capacity, and build institutional resilience in managing migrant-related challenges.
The donated items include mobile toilets, deep freezers, life jackets, waste bins, temporary handwashing stations, cooking pots, plates, and other essential supplies. These resources are expected to play a vital role in safeguarding health, ensuring safety, and improving living conditions during emergencies, while also equipping institutions with the tools needed to respond effectively to crises.
This initiative underscores CRS’s commitment to supporting national agencies in protecting vulnerable populations and fostering a more coordinated, sustainable approach to disaster management and migration response in The Gambia.

The National Disaster Agency through the Incident Management Team, convened a high-level coordination meeting on the Jinack maritime boat incident and recent interceptions of migrants in The Gambia. NDMA, IOM, and the Red Cross provided updates on the ongoing response efforts and support to survivors.
Partners highlighted the importance of timely information-sharing and collaborative action to safeguard and strengthen resilience. NDMA expressed deep appreciation to all partners for their swift interventions and solidarity during this challenging time. The Authority emphasized the need for all stakeholders to continue working through the Incident Management System to ensure efficiency and accountability.
