Many people are asking, “How can someone who strongly criticized President Barrow now choose to work with him?” That is a fair question.

But leadership is not about holding on to disagreements forever. Leadership is about recognizing when cooperation can achieve more than continued division. Criticism has its place, but so does collaboration.

If Honorable Kandeh and the GDC have chosen to work with President Barrow, the important question is not whether they once disagreed. The important question is whether this partnership can deliver better outcomes for the people of The Gambia.

History shows that many leaders have fiercely disagreed and later worked together because they believed the interests of their country came first. Changing from opposition to cooperation is not necessarily abandoning principles; it can be a decision to pursue those same principles through a different path.

In the end, Gambians should judge this decision not by the speeches of yesterday, but by the results of tomorrow. If this partnership brings peace, development, accountability, and a better future for our nation, then it deserves to be judged on those achievements. In the end, the country must always come before politics.
