We have recognized that Health and Development are the key pillars for the economic advancement of all societies and nations at large. Improved standard of living both in terms of health and development is crucial in sustaining and maintaining peaceful and decent societies and promoting social wellbeing. In view of this, lot of effort is been made to improve peoples’ health and socio- economic status by Government, NGOs and other Agencies. However, despite all efforts, there still remain lot of unaddressed issues relating to illegal migration, health and development, ignorance, poverty, drug abuse, child labor, that threatens the lives of many, especially women and children who are classified as the poorest in many societies around the globe. We are alarmed by the increasing emergence of human tragedy at sea and desert or illegal migration through back way, child labor, ignorance, acute poverty and mass rate of unemployment. These are the major leading causes of poverty in The Gambia and many part of the world at large. We belief that adequately responding to the challenges they pose, will lead to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations. Furthermore, we are cognisant of the fact that poverty and ignorance in our societies has severe economic implications and thus, reduces the productivity of our vital workforce, thereby consequently weakening the global economy, MAP confirm its obligations to take action to promote the wellbeing of every human being living in and outside of The Gambia through the watchword ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE, . Whilst acknowledging the laudable efforts of The Gambia Government and its international partners, we are convinced that the participation of all sectors of society can result to the sustainable development of our globe and as youths, we are also convinced that our full involvement and active participation in educating and promoting development is indeed imperative. This in essence is the rationale for the establishment of Movement Against Poverty (M.A.P) “EDUCATE TO ERADICATE”. Considering the fact that a significant number of people especially in the third world countries are not adopting healthy life styles consequently exposing them to both communicable and non communicable diseases, MAP is committed to educating the poor communities on appropriate measures to take so as to attain good health, sustainable and meaningful socio- economic development.
