🌾 Different needs. Different support. One stronger rice value chain.

A stronger value chain takes more than supporting farmers in the field. It takes an approach that strengthens the entire value chain.

Through its four key components, RRVCDP is supporting rice farmers and value chain actors in different ways, from improving production and productivity to strengthening agribusiness, markets and the institutions that support the sector.

This integrated approach means support goes beyond the farm, helping build a rice value chain that is more productive, connected, resilient and sustainable.

Behind this number are farmers, families, and communities whose livelihoods are connected to a stronger and more productive rice sector.

Since 2020, RRVCDP has been working across rice-producing communities to strengthen production, improve productivity, and create better opportunities for farmers and other value chain actors.

🚁🌾 3,265 Hectares. One Mission: Measure the Progress from Above.

RRVCDP is taking project monitoring to the skies as the Malaysian drone technology team, Aerodyne, conducts high-precision scanning across the project’s land development sites.

Covering the 3,265 hectares originally targeted for development, the exercise will provide accurate, up-to-date data on land developed, areas under cultivation and overall implementation progress, strengthening evidence-based planning and future decision-making.

The exercise began on 29 August 2026 and will continue across project sites throughout the week.

Equipping Rice Farmers for Greater Production
The Regional Rice Value Chain Development Project (RRVCDP) held a handing-over ceremony in Pacharr, Central River Region South marking another important step towards strengthening rice production and improving access to essential agricultural inputs and machinery.

During the ceremony, the project handed over 500Mt of fertilizer, 10 tractors, 80 ltrs of insecticides and 5625kg of herbicides to their beneficiary farmers and private sector actors across CRR/N, CRR/S and URR.

The ceremony brought together the Hon. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Demba Sabally, the Project Director, Project officials, key stakeholders,beneficiary farmers and private sector actors, highlighting continued efforts to strengthen agricultural production, particularly the rice sector.

🚜 From quality inputs to mechanisation, the support is helping farmers access the resources needed to cultivate more efficiently, improve productivity and strengthen local rice production.

🌾 Expanding the foundation for quality seed production in The Gambia.

Through the Regional Rice Value Chain Development Project (RRVCDP), 30 hectares of land 15 for rehabilitation and 15 new areas have been developed for the National Seed Secretariat (NSS) to support the expansion of quality seed production in The Gambia.

In this testimonial, Layen Mbye, Director of the Foundation Seed Department at NSS, explains how this support will strengthen the Foundation Seed Department's capacity to produce more seeds and contribute to increased agricultural production.

It begins with preparing the land. Then comes sowing, germination, crop growth and maturity, harvesting, processing, and packaging a complete journey towards stronger local rice production.

Through its support to rice farmers, the Regional Rice Value Chain Development Project (RRVCDP) is helping strengthen production and productivity through the development of 987ha of land in its beneficiary communities in CRR/South, CRR/North and URR

For rice farmers, having access to a tractor can mean cultivating more land, reducing the burden of farm work, and improving productivity. 🚜

Meet Arafang Jabbi from Wulli Sutukoba, URR, a beneficiary of tractor support provided through the Regional Rice Value Chain Development Project (RRVCDP).

In his testimonial, Arafang shares how access to the tractor has supported their farming activities and strengthened their ability to produce rice more efficiently.

His experience reflects RRVCDP’s continued investment in agricultural mechanisation under Component 1: Raising Rice Production and Productivity, helping farmers access the tools needed to strengthen local rice production.
