Ahead of the Eid Al Fitr break, I had the privilege of paying a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

It was a warm engagement that served an opportunity to convey our Eid greetings while expressing appreciation for his continued prayers and guidance for the nation and for our work at GNPC.

As the National Oil Company, we recognise that beyond the technical work we do, unity, faith, and collective support remain important as we continue our efforts to sustain production, advance exploration, and build capacity for the future.

I am grateful for his kind words and prayers, and for reminding us that national progress is best achieved together.

This week, I had the pleasure of welcoming a technical delegation from Petrobras to GNPCGhana for a focused, working engagement on how we can deepen cooperation between our two institutions.

Our relationship with Petrobras goes back many years and this visit builds on that history. This, however, is more about the present and the future. It is about the opportunity for practical collaboration, shared priorities, and technical discussions for mutual benefit.

This week, our teams are exchanging views on Ghana’s upstream landscape, operatorship, production optimization, marginal fields, and longer-term exploration opportunities, including our work in the Voltaian Basin all in our bid to create long-term value for Ghana's oil and gas industry.

I believe this is a unique opportunity as national oil companies to learn from one another as we navigate an increasingly complex energy sector for growth.

I look forward to the outcomes of the week and to where this renewed engagement can lead.

Last week in Takoradi, I had the privilege of joining colleagues, partners and industry leaders at the 2025 Local Content Conference & Exhibition ( ); a platform that continues to shape Ghana’s petroleum story.

In my remarks, I shared a message that is deeply personal to me; reminding all that local content is not just about percentages but about people. It is about competence, capital, and innovation coming together to create real opportunities for Ghanaians.

At GNPCGhana, we are working to make that vision tangible through our ongoing work in the Voltaian Basin Project, the completion of the GNPC Research & Technology Centre, and the frameworks we’re building to empower local suppliers and partners.

I left Takoradi inspired by the energy, collaboration, and shared ambition in the conversations we had. I’m certain that together, we can redefine local content and revitalize our upstream sector.

Yesterday, GNPCGhana’s 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) served an important opportunity for reflection, accountability, and renewed purpose.

As I shared with our stakeholders, 2024 marked a defining chapter in our transformation journey under the theme “Consolidating Our March Towards Operatorship.” Together, we have strengthened GNPC’s operational capacity, deepened collaboration, and advanced key projects that continue to anchor Ghana’s energy security.

Our focus remains clear:

✔️Building capability and enhancing value;
✔️Advancing joint and standby operatorship;
✔️ Leveraging innovative financing; and
✔️ Embedding ESG and green energy practices across our business.

I am deeply grateful to our Board Chairman, Prof. Joseph Oteng-Adjei, the Board of Directors, and our partners at the Ministry of Energy & Green Transition and the Ministry of Finance for their leadership and unwavering support — and to every member of the GNPC team whose commitment continues to drive our progress.

I look forward to, together, building on a strong foundation to shape GNPC into a commercially vibrant, future-ready National Oil Company that delivers lasting value to Ghana.

Last week, I had the pleasure of opening the maiden GNPC Vendor Engagement Seminar; a forum aimed at deepening collaboration, transparency, and local participation across our energy value chain.

At GNPC, Local Content means more than just a regulatory requirement. It is, for us, a central part of our strategy to grow together with Ghanaian enterprises in a mutually beneficial partnership that ensures that our nation’s resources create real opportunities for our people, businesses, and communities.

The conversations and insights shared across compliance issues and tender best practices, including the use of GHANEPS, and the various presentations from the Petroleum Commission and Public Procurement Authority are testaments of our goal to empower Ghanaian vendors to not only participate, but to compete and lead within the upstream sector.

As we mark 40 years, I want to reiterate our commitment to creating real value for Ghanaians, building partnerships that endure and supply chains that sustain growth for now and the future.

The GNPC Vendor Engagement Seminar 2025 marked a milestone in our 40th Anniversary celebrations, bringing together Ghanaian businesses, vendors, and partners under the theme: “Promoting Local Content and Local Participation through Vendor Engagement.”

From the CEO’s call for stronger partnerships and transparency to practical sessions on procurement and compliance, the seminar reinforced our commitment to empowering local enterprises, creating jobs, and building a more inclusive energy sector for Ghana.

A week ago in Accra, my chairmanship of the NOC CEOs Forum was formally confirmed at the 7th Meeting. I was honoured to receive the baton of leadership from Mr. Bienvenido Nguema Envo of Equatorial Guinea’s GEPetrol, whose stewardship helped strengthen our collective vision.

Looking back, hosting this Forum was both a privilege and a defining moment. Our deliberations reaffirmed a shared truth: Africa’s energy future must be led by African voices, African institutions, and African resolve.

It also reminded us that our strength lies in cooperation. From infrastructure sharing to the Africa Energy Bank, Africa’s competitiveness will be secured when we stand together.

For Ghana, the occasion highlights our positioning as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in Africa’s petroleum sector.

In a few days, I will have the honour of welcoming Africa’s energy leaders to Accra for the 7th APPO NOCs CEOs Forum. As host and Chair, GNPC is privileged to be at the centre of shaping conversations that will drive collaboration, innovation, and African-led solutions for our shared energy future.

This gathering is even more special as it coincides with Africa Oil Week in Accra and in a milestone year for us at GNPC — a proud reminder of the role we play in Ghana’s development and Africa’s global energy journey.

I invite you to follow the discussions and share in this defining moment as we strengthen partnerships, recommit to local content, and unite behind a common vision for Africa’s energy transition.

I’m happy to have led on behalf of GNPCGhana, the signing of a Promotion, Marketing and Revenue Sharing Agreement with the Petroleum Commission, led by CEO Ms. Emeafa Hardcastle.

This agreement covers the 2D seismic and geochemical data gathered under our Reconnaissance License for the Voltaian Basin Project.

The Voltaian Basin is a crucial project and with continued investment and commitment, I believe we can replicate the success of Ghana’s offshore petroleum sector right here onshore and lead this development on our own terms.

This agreement strengthens our collective resolve to unlock the full potential of the basin for Ghana, and I look forward to the opportunities this partnership will create for the sector and the people of Ghana.

This week, our nation is struck by a tragedy that has left us all shaken and heartbroken.

As Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), I extend our deepest sympathies to the families, institutions, and all Ghanaians affected by the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State, other senior public officials, and three gallant officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.

These were patriots who responded to a call of duty and paid the ultimate price in service to Ghana.

We mourn them. We honour them. We stand with the nation in grief.

Statement of Condolence on the Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is deeply saddened by the tragic crash of the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of distinguished public servants and gallant Air Force personnel.

We mourn the untimely passing of the Honourable Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, as well as the dedicated officials who accompanied them in responding to a call of duty in service to our nation — Alhaji Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.

We also extend our deepest condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces for the loss of the three brave officers who gave their lives in the line of service — Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. Their commitment and sacrifice will forever remain in the heart of a grateful nation.

GNPC stands in solemn solidarity with the bereaved families, His Excellency the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana, the Armed Forces, and the entire nation during this difficult time. As we collectively grieve this profound loss, we find strength in the selfless example these patriots have set, reminding us of the courage, dedication, and service that defines our journey as a people.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.

Today, I join many across Ghana in celebrating a towering figure in our nation’s legal and energy history — Tsatsu Tsikata Esq.

His pioneering work in gas-to-power initiatives, securing offshore drilling assets, advancing energy research, building local capacity, and investing in industries that strengthened Ghana’s economy has left an enduring mark.

As someone who had the privilege of following in his footsteps at GNPC, I am reminded that the foundation we build today will define the possibilities of tomorrow. Mr. Tsikata’s vision turned GNPC into a catalyst for national transformation — one that invested not just in projects, but in people.

On behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of GNPC, I say Ayekoo for 50 years of impact, leadership, and service to Ghana.

Here’s to legacies that inspire, and to the work we continue so the next generation can stand on even stronger ground.
