URGENT NOTICE (APPOINTMENTS OF INTERIM TESCON EXECUTIVES-ASHANTI REGION)

*Background*

1. It would be recalled that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directed that there should be closure of all schools in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This directive brought to a complete halt, almost every single physical activity in the schools including TESCON activities;

2. At the time, most of the TESCON Branches were yet to elect Executives for the 2020/2021 academic year to replace the outgoing Executives

3. In other to preempt the looming leadership crisis at the TESCON front and also have committed members of TESCON at positions of responsibility to aid in the 2020 campaign, the National Youth Wing decided:

a. That there should be appointment of interim executives for all TESCON branches across the country.

b. That such appointments must be done by the Regional Youth wing in consultation with the National youth wing, National TESCON Cordinating Secretariat, Constituency party leadership, Patrons and other key Stakeholders;

4. Having said that, the National Youth Wing has taken notice of the happenings in Ashanti Region in relation to appointment of interim TESCON executives;

5. The National Youth Organizer has received several petitions from Patrons, Constituency leadership, former TESCON executives etc in relation to the appointments made in the Ashanti Region and have exhaustively reviewed them;

*Decision*

6. It’s imperative to note that the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer’s decision to appoint interim TESCON Executives was in conformity with the directives given by the National Youth wing as captured in Paragraph 3.

7. However, the National Youth Wing in consultation with the Ashanti Regional Youth wing have resolved to put on hold all such appointments made thereon, pending further deliberations.

8. In the coming days, there will be stakeholders meeting and a much broader consultations will be made to develop a road map which will bring finality to these issue:

Presidential aspirants to know their position by October 14

The Electoral Commission (EC) may on Wednesday, October 14, organise a balloting session for cleared Presidential Aspirants, a source at the EC disclosed to the Ghana News Agency.

Depending on the decision of the Technical and Information Technology Committee’s recommendations, the Commission may not organise the ballot but go by the ‘first come first serve’ mode to place candidate on the ballot paper, the source also disclosed.

According to the source, the Commission has over the years, used either the balloting or the when aspirants filed their nominations forms to determine their positions.

GNA’s source said the Committee was at the tail end of the work and might disqualify some of the aspirants due to different signatures on both the voters’ register and the nomination forms, which raises questions as to the legitimacy of those signatures.

The next process after sorting out the positioning on the ballot would be the printing of the ballot papers.

The EC ended the filing of nomination on Friday, October 9, which saw a total of 17 presidential aspirants put themselves up to contest for the presidential election in December 2020.

Three of the Presidential Aspirants who filed the nominations are hoping to go as independent candidates when cleared by the EC while 14 are aspirants for political parties.

The process, which began on Monday, saw three aspirants presenting on Tuesday, two on Wednesday, seven on Thursday and five on Friday, which was the close of the exercise.
