Sagnarigu Assembly Re-Elects Salim Abubakari as Presiding Member with Overwhelming Majority:

The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly yesterday held its general meeting to elect a Presiding Member, resulting in the re-election of the incumbent, Mr. Salim Abubakari, by an overwhelming majority.
Out of the 34 Assembly Members present, Mr. Abubakari was the only candidate to file nomination forms for the position. During the voting process, he secured 31 “Yes” votes, representing 87 percent of the total votes cast, while three members voted “No,” representing 13 percent.
Following the successful election, Mr. Abubakari was officially sworn into office by a High Court Judge, His Lordship Stephen Tabiri, to continue serving as the Presiding Member of the Assembly.
The decisive outcome reflects strong confidence among Assembly Members in Mr. Abubakari’s leadership and his continued role in guiding the Assembly’s legislative and oversight responsibilities.

🌿 National Sanitation Day! 🌿

This morning, the MCE and MCD, alongside Assembly officers, visited the Shesagu and Nyrizaa Chief Palaces as part of the Clean Ghana Campaign.

A big salute to Bob’gu N Nye Yaa Youth Association – Shesagu for leading a massive clean-up — by 7:00am, Shesagu Clinic and the palace surroundings were already sparkling! 💪🧹

Cleaning also extended through:
📍 Kanvilli Zonal Council communities: Zagyuri, Kanvilli, Gbanyamni
📍 Kalpohini Zonal Council communities: Fou, Kalpohini Estate, Low Cost
With Assembly Members fully involved!

The MCE applauded the youth for their commitment, noting that the President’s Clean Ghana Reset Agenda remains a top priority. He expressed his excitement at their impact and assured them that his office remains open to support such initiatives. 🙌

The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with Norsaac, held a Town Hall Meeting on Monday, 24th November 2025 at Radach Lodge in Tamale.
The event brought together traditional authorities from the three paramountcies of the Municipality, traders, business men and women, civil society organisations, Assembly members, NGOs, and staff of the Assembly.

Notable speakers were Mr. Toyibu of Norsaac, who emphasized that transparency and mutual respect were essential pillars for driving development in every MMDA.

Mr. Hamza a presidential staffer at the office of the Vice President also commended the Assembly for availing itself to account for the stewardship of resources entrusted to them, noting that accountability builds trust. He further encouraged the Assembly to broaden its stakeholder base for future engagements.

Delivering the state of the Municipality on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Mahmud M. Osman, presented the Assembly’s performance for 2025. He highlighted achievements in Local Economic Development, Developmental Projects, Revenue Mobilisation, Sanitation, Agriculture, Education, Health, and more.

He also outlined the approved plans for 2026, including Government flagship programmes such as Feed Ghana, 24-Hour Economy Market Initiative, and Nkuko Nkitinkitin. He reaffirmed that the Assembly is committed to resetting its future with transparency as its foundation.
