𝐊𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐌 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐀 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄
The people of Ahanta (Aɣɩnda) lies between rivers Pra and Ankobra and celebrate Kundum festival. The kundum dance is called 𝑨𝒃𝒊𝒔𝒂.
Above and beneath knows this fact.
It is said that famine had hit Ahanta and one day, a hunter by name Akpoley saw Dwarfs dancing. He hid in the bush and watched them but the Dwarfs saw him. He pleaded for forgiveness. The Dwarfs forgave him and asked him what he wanted. He told them that famine was killing his people so he was looking for food for them. The Dwarfs gave him some red grains known in Ahanta language as "𝑨𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒆 𝑨𝒛𝒂𝒏ɩ " . They asked him to go and plant it and feed his people with it. They also taught him how to dance the 𝑨𝒃𝒊𝒔𝒂. He thanked them and went home to inform the king about his experience with the Dwarfs and that was how the Kundum festival started. Every year, the people of Ahanta celebrate Kundum festival to commemorate how Akpoley brought them food when there was famine in Ahanta.
In Ahanta, Kundum simply means 𝐤𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐮 𝐰ʋ 𝐦𝐢 meaning 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡 because there was enough 𝐀𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐳𝐚𝐧ɩ (𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧/𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐳𝐞) to prepare 𝐟𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐦.(The staple food of Ahantas)
Alas! Any person or individuals who are trying to pervert this will never succeed.
Kundum is the festival and nothing else.

The Dutch came to Ahanta around 1500 and in 1656, they signed the Butre treaty with Ahanta chiefs. A treaty which was going to last for 215 years, one of the longest between an African state and European state. The Dutch have been in Ahanta for over 200 years before Badu Bonso II came to the throne and so some sub chiefs felt Badu Bonso II was being harsh in his approach to drive the Dutch away. Allegiance of the people particularly the chiefs was divided between the Dutch and the kingdom.

The Dutch have managed to infiltrate deep into Ahanta politics and chieftaincy and succeeded in creating disaffection among the chiefs and people. In fact, in some of the situations, the Dutch were interfering in installations of chiefs and were imposing their candidates on royal families so Badu Bonso II felt that all these things must come to an end and the only way it would come to an end is when the Dutch are driven away from Ahanta.

Fighting the Dutch physically was not herculean like their influences and to do that, Badu Bonsu II went on ex*****on spree as mentioned earlier. If you fail to carry out his orders or instructions in relation to the Dutch, he would put you to death so when Eteroe of Sekondi defied his orders not sell gunpowder to neighboring tribes especially the Wassas, he wanted to have him killed so he quickly ran to the Dutch for protection.

Eventually the Dutch accused Badu Bonso II for corruption and bribery in order to have him removed from the throne and that resulted in his death as he was determined to keep his throne till the end.
