STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF HAJIA MARIAMA BAWUMIA

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Indeed to Allah we belong, and to Allah we shall return.)

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia.

Hajia Mariama passed away peacefully this morning in Accra. Burial is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday September 14, 2021 in Walewale.

May the Almighty Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Writes:

This afternoon, I engaged the Secretary General, His Excellency Mr. Wamkele Keabetswe Mene and the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) at the Jubilee House.

Among other things, we deliberated on the unique opportunities that AFCFTA offers the continent to prioritise development in Africa. With AFCFTA we are better positioned to leverage digital technology for Pan-African Payment and Settlement Systems. The advantages of such transcontinental payment platforms and interoperability cannot be over-emphasised and I look forward to that within the shortest time.

This morning, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife took the covid-19 vaccine at the Police Hospital in Accra.

This was after the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the First Lady had taken the vaccine at the 37 Military Hospital earlier.

Being the first Ghanaians to take the vaccine is to publicly demonstrate our confidence in the safety of the vaccine and also to encourage our fellow citizens to do same.

It is in the collective interest of all Ghanaians to take this vaccine so that, together, we can eradicate this deadly virus from our country. I therefore urge all Ghanaians to reject the conspiracy theories of naysayers and fully cooperate with the vaccination programme.

This morning, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia joined the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other faithfuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the One Week memorial service of my good friend, the late Richard Diedong D***o who, until his demise, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Railways Development Authority.

We have lost an honest and dedicated public servant. Richard D***o served Ghana and the New Patriotic Party well.

Richard, may your soul rest in perfect peace.
