MCE JOINS COMMEMORATION OF THE 2026 TREE FOR LIFE INITIATIVE AT GAANI

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina A. Abulu, today joined the Forestry Commission, traditional authorities, staff, and students of Our Lady of Lourdes Girls Senior High School, to commemorate the second edition of the national Tree for Life Initiative.

Addressing participants on the theme, “Forestry and Economies,” the Hon. MCE highlighted the vital role trees play in environmental sustainability, livelihoods, and economic development. She encouraged all residents to actively support the government's target of planting 30 million trees nationwide by planting and nurturing trees within their communities.

Hon. Faustina expressed appreciation to the Forestry Commission for its continued support in promoting afforestation within the Municipality and called for strengthened measures to protect forest reserves against deforestation.

She emphasized that tree planting should not be a one-day activity but a continuous commitment towards safeguarding the environment for future generations.

The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly today held its General Assembly Meeting at the Assembly Conference Hall, presided over by the Presiding Member, Hon. Atiisi Christopher. The meeting brought together Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, staff of the Assembly, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on critical development matters affecting the Municipality.

Delivering her Sessional Address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina Akeyom Abulu, highlighted key achievements, ongoing projects, and policy interventions being undertaken by the Assembly to improve the welfare of the people.

Hon. MCE touched on the prevailing peace and security situation in the Municipality, noting that the Municipality continues to enjoy relative calm through the collaborative efforts of the security agencies, traditional leaders, and stakeholders.
On the financial position of the Assembly, Hon. MCE reported improvements in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) performance for the first quarter of 2026, attributing the progress to enhanced revenue mobilization measures, particularly in property rates and fees collection.

The General house was also briefed on several ongoing development projects across the Municipality, including the 24-Hour Economy Market project, educational infrastructure, health service expansion, and agricultural interventions such as the rehabilitation of the Natugnia dam and the proposed Farmer Service Centre.

In the area of education, the MCE acknowledged concerns over BECE performance trends and assured members of the Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to improve the situation.

Members actively deliberated on issues raised in the MCE’s sessional address and discussed strategies aimed at promoting development, improving revenue performance, strengthening service delivery, and addressing key challenges confronting the Municipality.

Today marked a significant milestone in the development agenda of the Municipality as the site for the 24-Hour Economy Market Project was officially handed over to the contractor for commencement of works.

The sod-cutting ceremony was led by the Upper East Regional Minister together with the Honourable Member of Parliament and the Honourable Municipal Chief Executive. The event brought together Chiefs, Heads of Departments, Government Appointees, Political party officials, Market Women, and members of the community who gathered to witness this important occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Minister assured the public of government’s commitment and the availability of funds to ensure the successful ex*****on of the project.
The MCE, Hon. Faustina A. Abulu on her part, praised H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for the initiative, describing the project as a transformative intervention that will create economic opportunities, improve trading activities, and enhance livelihoods within the Municipality.

The 24-Hour Economy Market Project is expected to boost local commerce, create jobs, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive today officially handed over a newly completed 2-unit Kindergarten block with ancillary facilities and full furnishing at Navro-Pungu to the Ghana Education Service and the community.

The facility, which is aimed at improving early childhood education in the area, was first handed over by the contractor to the Municipal Assembly before its official presentation to the beneficiaries.

The project is expected to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for children and enhance teaching and learning outcomes in the community.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Faustina Abulu urged the people and school authorities to take full ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper maintenance and effective utilization for the benefit of present and future generations.

Community members expressed gratitude to Municipal Assembly for the intervention, describing the project as a significant step toward improving education infrastructure and quality education delivery in the area.

Today, the Municipal Chief Executive officially commissioned and handed over a rehabilitated dam project at Natugnia to the Chief and people of the community.

The rehabilitation project, which commenced in 2024 under the Social Cohesion (SOCO) initiative, is expected to improve access to water for farming activities, livestock, and other socio-economic needs of the people.

During the visit, the MCE and her team inspected the facility to assess the quality of work done and expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the project. She urged the community members to ensure proper use, maintenance, and protection of the dam so it can continue to serve its intended purpose for many years to come.

The Chief and people of Natugnia expressed their appreciation to the Assembly and all stakeholders involved in bringing the project to completion, describing it as a major boost to livelihoods and development in the area.

Earlier today, the Municipal Chief Executive, accompanied by the Municipal Director of Education, paid a visit to some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres within the municipality.

The purpose of the visit was to motivate and encourage the candidates as they undertake this important phase of their academic journey.

Hon. Faustina Abulu interacted with the students and invilgilators and offered some words of inspiration and urged them to remain focused, confident, and disciplined throughout the examination period.

She further extended her best wishes to the candidates, expressing confidence in their ability to excel and make the municipality proud.
