The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu South, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, together with Hon. Hackman Kabore, Presidential Staffer in charge of the Eastern Region representing the Eastern Regional Minister, paid a courtesy call to the Chiefs and Elders of Mpraeso and Twenedurase on Friday, 4th September 2026, to formally present a landmark project – the establishment of a university in Kwahu South.

The visit forms part of the government's broader policy to establish new universities in the six newly created regions and some existing regions, affirming President John Dramani Mahama's commitment to expanding access to tertiary education across the country. The proposed university is intended to serve not only the people of Kwahu but also Ghana at large.

The team visited the palaces of Nana Ampadu Daduam II, Paramount Chief of Mpraeso, and the Chiefs of Twenedurase, where they were warmly received. Hon. Hackman Kabore and the MCE shared the vision for the tertiary institution, highlighting its transformative potential for the socio-economic development of the area.

Both Chiefs expressed their delight and warmly welcomed the project, acknowledging the numerous benefits it would bring to their communities, Kwahuman, and Ghana at large. They pledged their full support and cooperation.

Hon. Kabore and the MCE assured the Chiefs that the project would see the light of day, as it is dear to the heart of the President.

MCE LEADS COMMUNITY ENTRY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD FROM ADAWSO TO NEW JERUSALEM

On Thursday, 3rd September 2026, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu South, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, led a team to the Adawso community for an official community entry and to commence site clearing for the long-awaited road project from Adawso to New Jerusalem. The team included the Municipal Engineer, Assembly members for Adawso, Nketepa, New Oworobong, and New Jerusalem, as well as the engineer from Kabaka Construction.

The team was warmly received by the Chiefs and Elders of Adawso, who expressed their gratitude that the project had finally attracted the attention of the President. The community formally welcomed the engineer and assured him of their full cooperation.

The MCE expressed appreciation to the chiefs and pledged the Assembly's commitment to completing the road project to address the longstanding motorist challenges. He also appealed to residents whose properties may be affected during construction to exercise patience and cooperate with the contractor.

The project is expected to improve road connectivity from Adawso to New Jerusalem, enhance the movement of goods and services, and boost economic activities in the beneficiary communities.

Kwahu South Municipal Assembly Organises Two-Day Next Generation Leadership Training for Assembly Members

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly has successfully held a two-day Next Generation Leadership Training for Assembly Members on 24th and 25th August 2026, to strengthen their leadership capacity and improve local governance. The training was facilitated by a team from Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) and equipped participants with essential skills in leadership, communication, decision-making, teamwork, accountability, conflict management, and community engagement.

The programme emphasized the need for visionary and responsive leadership to drive development and improve service delivery to citizens. The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity building for sustainable development within the Municipality.

Participants have pledged to apply their new skills to positively impact their communities. We are proud of our Assembly Members and look forward to seeing the difference they will make.

KWAHU SOUTH HOLDS SANITATION EXERCISE ACROSS MPRAESO AND OTHER COMMUNITIES

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly successfully held a sanitation exercise across Mpraeso and other communities on Friday, 17th July 2026, as part of the rotational National Sanitation Day initiative. The exercise saw active participation from the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, the Municipal Coordinating Director, staff of the Assembly, Assembly members, and residents.

The clean-up activities included sweeping of principal streets, clearing of choked drains, weeding of overgrown areas, and collection and disposal of refuse from public spaces. The MCE and MCD led by example, personally joining in the weeding and clearing alongside residents.

The MCE expressed his happiness with the involvement of residents and business owners who kept their shops closed in the morning to participate in the clean-up before opening for business. Their commitment was deeply appreciated.

Speaking after the exercise, the MCE called on all residents to take personal responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean and to participate actively in subsequent sanitation exercises.

Eastern Regional Coordinating Director Pays Working Visit to Kwahu South Municipal Assembly

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, hosted the Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Ebenezer Amoah, on a working visit aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing administrative performance, and improving public service delivery within the municipality.

The visit formed part of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council’s ongoing engagements with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the region to assess operational performance, provide technical support, and promote efficient and citizen-centred governance.

During the engagement, Mr. Amoah met with management and staff of the Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, and the Municipal Coordinating Director. Discussions focused on improving administrative efficiency, strengthening transparency and accountability, and accelerating the implementation of government policies and development programmes.

The Regional Coordinating Director commended the staff for their dedication to public service and encouraged them to continue upholding the values of professionalism, teamwork, and integrity. He emphasised the importance of a motivated and efficient public service in advancing Ghana’s decentralisation agenda and ensuring that development reaches citizens at the grassroots level.

Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David welcomed the Regional Coordinating Director and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council to enhance service delivery and achieve sustainable development outcomes for the people of Kwahu South.

KWAHU SOUTH OBSERVES NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND THANKSGIVING

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the local Christian community, successfully observed the 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Wednesday, 1st July 2026, at the Perez Chapel in Bepong. The event was held under the national theme, "Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want," and brought together the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, staff of the Assembly, representatives from the Bepong Traditional Area, members of the various local Christian councils, and residents.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, instituted by President John Dramani Mahama, is observed annually on 1st July to foster spiritual renewal and national unity. The second edition of the event seeks to encourage all citizens to take stock of Ghana's journey, let go of negative habits, and recommit to national values of discipline, unity, and hope.

The service featured scripture readings, praise and worship, and sessions of intercessory prayers for the President, the nation, and the municipality. Special prayers were offered for the peace, security, and stability of Ghana, the Kwahu South Municipality, and for God's wisdom, guidance, and protection for the nation's leadership and citizens.

Speaking during the service, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to supporting initiatives that foster spiritual renewal, moral integrity, and national cohesion. He called on residents to embrace the values of honesty, discipline, and patriotism as the foundation for building the Ghana they desire. He further encouraged the Christian community to continue interceding for the nation and the municipality.

KWAHU SOUTH TAKES MAJOR STEP TO DEVELOP NKOFIEHO MYSTIC CAVE INTO WORLD-CLASS TOURIST DESTINATION

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly, in partnership with a team from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has taken a significant step towards transforming the Nkofieho Mystic Cave at Twenedurase into a world-class tourism destination. A meeting and site visitation exercise were held on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, to assess the location and chart a path for its development.

The engagement began with the GTA team visiting the Assembly for a brief meeting, after which the team, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, together with the Municipal Coordinating Director and some management members, proceeded to the palace of the Chief of Twenedurase. The visit fulfilled a longstanding promise made by the MCE to develop the site during his tenure. He formally introduced the GTA team and sought the Chief's permission to access the cave for assessment, which was graciously granted.

The team then moved to the site, examining the physical features including the Echo Ravine and the mystic cave itself, to evaluate what would be required to uplift the site to international standards. The cave, steeped in rich history and cultural significance, served as a sacred protectorate for ancient warriors migrating from the Asante Kingdom.

This development is expected to boost tourism, create employment opportunities for the youth, and contribute to local economic development. The Assembly remains committed to working with the GTA to realise the full potential of this historic site.

DOUBLE MILESTONE FOR KWAHU SOUTH! COMMISSIONING AND SOD CUTTING EXECUTED

On Thursday, 4th June 2026, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, together with the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu South, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, undertook a tour of the Kwahu South Municipality, beginning with the commissioning of a 3-unit Kindergarten block with office, store, and a 4-unit water closet toilet facility for Koranteng M/A Primary School. The team then proceeded to Kwahu Obo, where they commissioned a 1No. 6-unit classroom block with office, store, and ICT laboratory for St. Paul Anglican Primary School at Obo. The final stop was at Mpraeso, where the Regional Minister officially cut the sod for the construction of the much-anticipated 24hr Economy Market.

These projects are expected to enhance educational infrastructure, promote quality education, and improve learning conditions for pupils within the municipality, reducing pressure on existing educational infrastructure and contributing to improved literacy rates in the Kwahu South Municipality over the long term.

The 24hr Economy Market at Mpraeso marks a significant milestone in efforts to boost local trade and economic development. The modern, well-structured market facility is designed to support continuous trading activities, reduce congestion in existing trading spaces, improve sanitation conditions, and enhance overall economic productivity in the area.

In her address, the Regional Minister explained that the initiative will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially for the youth, during construction and after completion. She called on stakeholders to support the project to ensure its timely and successful ex*****on.

Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David expressed gratitude to the government for bringing such transformative projects to the municipality and assured that the Assembly would provide the necessary oversight to guarantee quality work and timely delivery.

Chiefs, elders, and staff of both schools, as well as members of the Obo and Koranteng communities, and market traders, commended the Assembly for the initiatives and expressed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at advancing development within their communities.
