The Seventh-Day Adventist College of Education at Asokore - Koforidua has held a graduation ceremony for 822 students, comprising 496 males and 326 females. Speaking on the theme "Pursuing Excellence in Teacher Education,"the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, charged the graduating teachers to pursue excellence in their profession, emphasizing that teaching is a divine calling that requires patience, creativity, and love. She urged the graduands to be architects of the nationโs destiny, shaping young minds to dream, think, and believe.
The Minister praised the SDA College of Education for its unique approach to teacher education, which combines faith and discipline to produce men and women of integrity, compassion, and service. She assured the graduands that the region remains committed to supporting education, empowering teachers, and strengthening institutions like the SDA College of Education.
Mrs. Awatey encouraged the graduands to teach with patience, creativity, and hope, even in challenging circumstances, and to remember that every child they meet carries a dream worth nurturing. She congratulated them and urged them to step out with confidence, humility, and purpose, letting their classrooms become sanctuaries of transformation.
The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service in charge of Management and Services, Prof. Mrs. Smile Gavua Dzisi, urged the graduands to be ethical leaders, social innovators, and transformative educators who would shape the future of Ghanaโs education sector.
She highlighted the importance of technology in enhancing teaching and learning, noting that educators must blend traditional pedagogy with digital innovations to engage students and personalize learning. The Deputy Director-General also assured the graduands that the Ghana Education Service is committed to supporting them through continuous professional development, the provision of teaching and learning resources, and policies that promote effective pedagogy.
The Principal of the College, Prof. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, bemoaned that the college has been facing significant challenges, including inadequate staff residential accommodation and lecture theaters, as well as uncompleted projects that require attention.
According to Prof. Adzahlie-Mensah, the college has also been grappling with a reduction in student intake due to the quota system implemented, which has resulted in decreased internally generated funds. Despite these challenges, the Principal expressed gratitude to the collegeโs alumni for their consistent support, urging the new graduates to join the association and contribute to the development of the institution. He added that the college also operates 24-hour health services for both tutors and students.
