KETA MUNICIPAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE CONDUCTS FLOOD IMPACT ASSESSMENT
On Tuesday, 30th June 2026, the Keta Municipal Disaster Management Committee, under the auspices of the Keta Municipal Assembly and led by Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, NADMO Director of the Keta Municipal Assembly, conducted a comprehensive assessment of communities affected by the recent flooding within the municipality.
The assessment team comprised representatives from the Ghana National Fire Service, National Ambulance Service, Public Health, Environmental Health and Sanitation, Ghana Education Service, Department of Agriculture, Information Services Department, and community opinion leaders.
The team visited the Laworshime Electoral Area, Anyako, Konu, Anlo Afiadenyigba, Horvi-Havedzi, Kedzikope, Eduxorgbor, and Abutiakope to assess the extent of the flooding and identify urgent response needs.
The assessment revealed extensive flood damage affecting homes, schools, markets, roads, bridges, farms, churches, cemeteries, public and private toilet facilities, refuse disposal sites, and other critical infrastructure. The flooding has disrupted livelihoods, education, transportation, sanitation, and economic activities across many of the affected communities.
As part of the coordinated emergency response, the Volta Regional NADMO Team, led by the Regional Director, Mr. Pascal Agbagbah, together with the Information Services Department and under the leadership of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, visited Kedzi and received a situational briefing from the Municipal Chief Executive of the Keta Municipal Assembly, Hon. Wisdom Seade.
During the visit, the Municipal Chief Executive announced that community engagement and public education programmes would be held from 3rd to 6th July 2026 in Anlo Afiadenyigba, Anyako, Atiavi, Horvi-Havedzi, and other affected communities. These engagements are intended to educate residents on the recommendations of engineers and technical experts aimed at mitigating flood risks and strengthening community resilience.
A comprehensive assessment report, together with recommendations and proposed mitigation measures, will be submitted to the Management of the Keta Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) to facilitate immediate interventions and support long-term flood management strategies.
The Keta Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Disaster Management Committee express their sincere appreciation to the Volta Regional Minister, the Regional NADMO Team, the Honourable Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, all participating institutions, and community leaders for their swift response and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Assembly also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Francis Senanu Dekutse for his generous donation of GH¢500.00 in support of the assessment exercise.
The Keta Municipal Assembly, through NADMO and its stakeholders, remains committed to disaster preparedness, flood risk reduction, emergency response, and the protection of lives and property. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with officials during the upcoming community engagements and continue to observe all safety precautions as efforts are intensified to address the flood situation.
