University Of Cape Coast (UCC) Welcome to the official page of University of Cape Coast (THE UNIVERSITY OF COMPETITIVE CHOICE).

The University was established out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education to provide leadership and enlightenment. Its original mandate was therefore to train graduate professional teachers for Ghana's second cycle institutions and the Ministry of Education, in order to meet the manpower needs of the country's accelerated education programme at the time. Today, with

the expansion of some of its faculties and the diversification of programmes, the University has the capacity to meet the manpower needs of other ministries and industries in the country, besides that of the Ministry of Education.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has held its third White Coat ceremony for fourth-year students.

Themed, “Developing the Future Pharmacist: Competence and Integrity”, the ceremony marked a transition from didactic-based instruction to clinical practice-based learning for the students.

The students, referred to as Rx28, took the Oath of Pharmacy, pledging a lifetime of service in prioritising patient welfare, ethical conduct, and continuous professional growth to relieve suffering and also protect patient information.

In all, 121 Level 400 students were robed in white coats - a knee-length overcoat often recognised universally as a uniform for professionals in the pharmacy field.

The Country Manager of Ghana and West Africa Sales Lead, Cipla Limited, Dr. (Pharm) Mawuli Atiemo, who was the keynote speaker at the ceremony, admonished student Pharmacists to eschew the penchant for money in the profession, saying, "The money will come as a result of solving difficult problems."

The Parliament of Ghana's Department of Public Engagement has held discussions with the Directorate of Public Affairs of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on the proposed Student Parliament Charter.

The proposed Charter is aimed at formalising and guiding student Parliaments across tertiary institutions that are affiliated with the House.

During the engagement, the Director of Public Engagement, Superintendent (Rtd), Effia Tenge, said the charter sought to establish an inclusive platform where students can present, debate, and refine ideas on governance, leadership, and national development.

She also urged students to contribute actively to the drafting process and described the exercise as an opportunity to strengthen youth voice in governance design.

A delegation from Eskala from the United States of America (USA) has held discussions with the Board of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Co‑operative Credit Union to explore a partnership aimed at expanding financial support to community members in Cape Coast.

The team is particularly interested in supporting women engaged in trading and other small-scale businesses.

At the meeting, the President of Eskala, Pallav Vora expressed his organisation’s readiness to purchase shares in the UCC Credit Union as an entry point for collaboration.

According to him, the investment was intended to strengthen the Credit Union’s capital base so it can extend more tailored financial services to residents who struggle to access affordable financing for their enterprises.

Stakeholders have called for intensified public awareness and policy support to promote farmers markets as a viable avenue for delivering fresh, safe, and quality food directly to consumers.

They made the call during a workshop held alongside farmers market in front of Sasakawa Centre, University of Cape Coast.

The participants made up of farmer groups, district directors of education, traditional leaders, representatives from the Central Regional Coordinating Council argued that expanding awareness of farmers markets would not only improve access to nutritious food but also strengthen local food systems by creating reliable outlets for farmers to sell their produce at fair prices.

According to them, this approach would help farmers secure better returns on their investments and reduce post-harvest losses, which remain a persistent challenge in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
