The Ghana Tourism Authority Upper East Region honoured invitation to Ghana Education Service (GES) inter-circuits festival of arts and culture competition themed; Culture Education, Nurturing and preserving Ghanaian values.
The competing schools exhibited their talents through indigenous food preparation, arts, crafts and cultural performances on the 4th and 5th June, 2026. Topics sketched were on cultural values, mining menace, culture preservation, same s*x marriage menace and amongst others.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Ghana Hotels Association in the Upper East Region, has held an emergency stakeholders' meeting with proprietors of hotels operating swimming pool facilities.

The meeting became necessary following the increasing incidents and negative publicity associated with the use and management of swimming pools in some hospitality establishments across the region.

Addressing participants, the Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority for the Upper East Region Mr. Joseph Appiagyei urged hotel operators to strictly adhere to all safety standards, operational guidelines, and regulations prescribed by the relevant authorities to prevent future occurrences and safeguard the reputation of the tourism and hospitality industry.

The meeting concluded with a practical demonstration session led by the Regional Director at the swimming pool facility of Tap Hotel, aimed at reinforcing best practices in pool management and safety compliance.

The Regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Pikworo Slave Camp Governing Board visited the Paramount Chief of Paga Traditional Area, Pe Charles Awampaga to officially introduce the Ghana Tourism Authority regional director, Mr. Joseph Appiagyei to the Royal Majesty. Paga is the tourism hub of the region, just to mention but few, the famous Crocodile Ponds, Pikworo Slave Camp, Ghana-Burkina Faso border and amongst others. The team used the opportunity to brief his Royal Majesty on the state visit of the Illinois State Governor, USA and the DNA research team from Illinois State University to Ghana and Paga. The Royal Majesty welcomed the GTA Director and the Governing Board and assured them of his support since tourism is a catalyst for pro-poor development.

The Regional Director, Ghana Tourism Authority, Upper East Region, Mr. Joseph Appiagyei led a delegation, the Governing Board of Pikworo Slave Camp to brief the Regional Minister Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga on the state visit of Illinois State Governor and the DNA research team from Illinois State University, USA to the region. As we position the Pikworo Slave camp, one of the holdings camps of captive in Ghana through PANAFEST and Emancipation Celebrations and subsequently DNA testing as a scientific proof to integrate and reconnect to our brothers and sisters in the diaspora.
On the same connection, the team visited the District Chief Executive (DCE) Kassena Nankana West Assembly, Hon. Stephen Aeje Akurugo. Both leadership pledged their support and participation since it confirms reparation drive.
