PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
INSPECTION OF EXPIRED FOOD PRODUCTS
This week, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers, will conduct inspections at various market centers in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso- Bekwai Municipality.
Our officers will visit various shops and market places to inspect the expiry date of products which are being sold to the general public. It is scientifically proven, that the consumption of expired food products poses serious public health risks. The safety of people who consume such products cannot be guaranteed. Such expired products when consumed, can cause diseases and outright deaths.
In view of this, the general public is by the announcement, requested to scrutinize and take notice of the expiry dates on products that are sold at various shops, supermarkets, and market centers, before purchasing them.
Wholesaler and Retailers are hereby strongly advised, to conduct expiry date checking exercise and, get rid of all expired products. This should be done before our team of inspectors begin their inspection.
According to Section 3(b) of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), "a person commits an offence if that person sells or offers for sale a food that is unwholesome or unfit for human or animal consumption".
Wholesalers and Retailers who intend to engage in the practice of flooding markets this festive season with expired products should desist from such enterprise. We urge the public, to purchase only products with clear manufactured and expiry dates. Avoid defaced date markings.
